This feels like a cross between an AA meeting and a dating site!!
Arriving late to the party (as usual!) as it's taken me a few days to realise, actually I think I'd like another crack at another long distance Tri and make a better fist of it next time!
Completed Outlaw this year, I wouldn't say raced as it was so slow. But my aim was to get around and I managed that. Training is my weak spot to be honest! I can swim reasonably well. More pool training during the winter would help, but I don't get along very well with chlorine. It makes my skin itch and I always seem to get athletes foot after being at pools! 1.10 at Outlaw this year.
Following Dustboys Surrey rides I actually started to like the bike a bit, but suffer with back issues on long rides. Being a couple stone overweight probably doesn't help there! 7.17 at Outlaw!
My main problem are my knees. Slight cartillage tears on each one means it feels like someone's driving a nail through the knee cap climbing stairs. This, in turn, has lead to Achillies tendinitus! Masseuse at Outlaw said I needed to see a Physioterrorist as I have significant scarring on achillies that needs to be got rid of before running again. (7.08 at Outlaw!! and the 'Pebble' award!)
I didn't follow any particular plan at all. Bit of cycling here, bit of swimming there, but no running apart from one 5 miler!!
So, you see I'm a reluctant trainer! Could certainly do with some structure and someone willing to cajole me out of the door, if I'm honest!
I've got a confirmed place at VLM next year, having missed the ballot for the last five years, so am hoping some training for that will help with my 'run' time next year.
Live alone most of the time and currently Surrey based, but hope to be in the West Country by Christmas!
Any volunteers from the 'Mentors' to take on a stubborn, overweight 50 year old would be gratefully received! Replies on a post card to the usual address, your humble servant, Siggy!
p.s. can't make the London Social this week as I have to pick my 16 year old lad up from Guildford at 7.30pm on Friday.
Cheers!
