Entries are now open (and have been for a few weeks)

Just thought it was about time we started a thread for what is arguably the main warm up event for Ironman Germany.

So far the list of participants is:

Bala 1/2 IM long distance course (Jun 4th)
IR
cougie
Toucan (prob)
TC
Norma
Barley
Pebble
John Douglas
Trickster (if not doing Windsor)
Monique
Debbo
Slummo
Meldy this or Windsor
Zilla
oxy
Emmy
Jools
Swissbobby

Info re Bala..

Get wet
Peddle a lot
Run up a big hill and back down again.

Its in Wales, fantastic scenery, strange locals, fast bike course (though 1st 15 miles are hilly).

Is there a website for the Bala race?

For a novice is there sufficient time between Bala and IMDE to recover?

Is it widely accepted that a half in the run-up is good preperation? Presumably you take it "easy" on the race day.

I know this is the worst place to look for it but advice sought please.

I'll be at Kraichgau half on 11 June - that's if I can face biking the 2 x 14% and 1 x 15% climbs!

I'll pop my name down for this; assuming my entry doesn't get <<ahem>> lost in the post...

Lots of us did Bala and IMCH last year which was roughly the same timing. I was worried at the time about being able to recover but was fine and glad that I had done it as it really gave me a boost about being able to complete the full distance.

My advice would be to go for it, have a couple of easy days before and after but no real taper or recovery as you will be used to putting in long training days at the weekends by then anyway.

Was thiniing of doing this, but got my entry for the Dartmoor Discovery Ultra marathon instead.

Take warm clothing!

Of course you can:)

I treated Bala as a long training day rather than a race, it was also the decider on wether or not I did IMCH. I liked the course so much I did the bike course twice thanks to TC. It is a nice place to race although the water was bliddy freezing.

Camped last year Emmy, nice campsite by the lake with lovely views.

Chef was excellent and will be expecting macoroni cheese for 06.
