Etape Cymru

Slow uphill and not much faster down

Just wondering if anybody else ventured out into a wild and woolly north wales this weekend for Etape Cymru? I didn't see any other Pirate kit but it struck me as the sort of event that might drag a few along.

It was a funny old event... but I really enjoyed it. I did it as a bit of an after-thought to my first season and with the benefit of hindsight, it was a bit too gnarly an event to just rock-up to with the remnants of a hangover and minimal miles in the legs. But having recently entered IMW 2012, it's struck me as a decent "sighter" for next year's main course. And by 'eck it were tough! It was scheduled to be 100 miles and 6,000 feet of upflats but thankfully some local cycling fans nicked a bunch of the signage and the route got shortened to 90. Unfortunately, the last 15 miles was a totally un-signed shambles with minimal marshalling, so I clocked 96 miles doing there 90 mile route.

Anyway - if you were there, and north wales is your "manor" maybe give me a shout because it would be cool to find somebody like-minded to do some rides with over the winter.

I didn't do it but know a few who did and were not too impressed with organisation etc, fantastic route but lack of marshals and idiots on road caused issues

Where about are you based, not to far from north Wales and get down to llandegla on mountain bike regularly don't tend to get there on road bike but will need to get miles in for imuk

Just read the race report on Road CC,

Organisers have held their hands up over lack of marshals and roads being shared with traffic when should be closed due to stolen signs.

For a first event most say it was good, but lessons to be learned
