I just watched the 'Flying Scotsman - the Graeme Obree Story' - that should count at bike training surely  (good film by the way, especially the bit when the Scotsman beats that Englishman Boardman )

Does the whole if the base period count as exercise rather than training then?

I would say so yes ... I see the base as a 'foundation', you are building the blocks to begin training so therefore its exercise
To look at it another way its an  introduction to consistency  !!

Finks plan is a guide, my adapted fink plan hits all the long stuff but fits in with the family lifestyle now, it still gives adequate rest between runs, cycles and swims.

I can swim when daughters at karate, i can also do park run with her now. She is also going to do her first tri next year so can swim train with me on the friday session.

Non of the long runs or long cycles on consequitive days so muscle recovery will be fine. Ay probs, drop a training day & have a rest

Half hour turbo, 5 mile run, feeling good!  Now a glass of wine to undo all the good work.

Oh dear - on that basis all my good work has probably been undone back to the summer

I went to a talk by Obree a few years ago. Hey he is a great guy but complex in a big way. He is into stretching and not eating salt in the most OCD focussed way you could think. A lot of newbies to exercise could take a leaf out of his book about just getting on with non science based training to build a base and ultimately speed.

Andy, I reckon a couple of miles today or tomorrow might be OK, and will probably indicate just how much better you are.

I have an off-road, hilly half on Sunday (Bath Hilly Half), but to be honest with this weather I'm not sure it will be on.  Flooding all over.

I've heard the flooding is bad in the SW. Today's jaunt down the M1 showed flooded fields on either side. My almost-gone coughs and splutters (aka ManFlu) has returned with avengance following Tuesday's wet run.

Out to play in the wind tonight

Evening folks.

Well, went back to work today, feeling a lot better now so i'm going to do the half regardless. Havent ran today, forgot my daughter was doing a christmas parade so been out till now watching that & not going to bother now till Sunday, my main goal is to run the whole thing without walking so doubt doing a couple of miles before then will have any influence on that goal anyway.

I think we are all going to get slammed at events with the weather this weekend so everyone take care

Good luck

I should probably start training for the 1st Dec event, but will likely bike/run instead. I'll be totally unprepared! #GoldenBoots.

SD personal trainer friend told me it was important to go for a short leg stretch run the day before just to reawaken the muscles before the big day just 1k is apparently beneficial . Sought be worth it sat IF you can fit it in?
Worked for me I have to say .
