mmmm I love crumpets, they are amazing with peanut butter (and I mean proper peanut butter not that horrible sweet stuff like sunpat) or marmite, or cheese. I never actually have peanut butter any more because eldest son is allergic to peanuts so they are banned from the house

Oh you poor thing - I could live on peanut butter, and yes, I recently discovered peanut butter and crumpets ...

well, if you buy the nice peanut butter, like, wholeearth then there isn't any added sugar, just peanuts, so what is wrong with that?

You lot been talking about food all day. What about your training?

Mathschick - only went for a 15 minute run in the Newtons, they felt really good. Website says you should just increase your running in them slowly until your used to them.
Will wear my normal trainers on tomorrows long run & use the Newtons on the weekly shorter ones for now.

Sossidge there is always the possiblilty of using your newtons for a warm up and then swapping to normal ones ... can be a bit of a pain but is useful in the early stages

Hope, I worry about you sometimes  

talking of minimal shoesies ... I have a pair of New Balance minimal jobbies and am using these in the gym for core & stability exercises, its adds a different level of hardness to the stablity stuff over wearing trainers which when you think about it are there to offer stability .. so if you are doing core & stability stuff at home make sure its barefoot  

Hoping to get out for a swim this afternoon when I wake up, the pool times can be a bit hit or miss at a weekend and after nights is never the best combination for me !!

Morning. Funnily enough I was talking to the guy in our local running shop and minimalist shoes. He's a good, long time runner. His words included: useless and rip-off.....

He did say that most shoes were too heavy and thick soled as well. Something in between was his suggestion.

They are certainly a rip off - you do seem to pay as much, if not more, for less - but then thats supply and demand I guess. As for useless - each to their own, but I'm firmly in the barefoot, mid foot stike camp having studied evolution biology for years. Evolutionary wise, we're design as long distance runners, with perfect mechanical balance for landing mid foot. The R and D guys at Nike are good, but they'll never beat 2 million years of Mother Nature!! So you don't need anything more than a minimalist shoe.

Firmly in the mid to bareeefoot camp too which I put down to having "grown up" in the sport from a 400m / 800m back ground.  Never a heel strike to be had there which is perhaps why I haven't had any calf issues which often seem to be reported for people new to this particular style of running.

I tend to cycle between Newtons for the longer stuff and the Inov8 / New Balance models for the short, faster runs.

My legs are aware that they did a bit of running yesterday, but feelin' good and looking forward to a couple of hours on the bike.  It's a beautiful day here.

 friend of mine used to be manager of a well know 'running shop' and he told me once the mark up on average pair of Nike Air Pegasus . I'm in the wrong business!!
