I was actually surprised how cold it was !!

Melds - My physio explained it to me, and I can see how a needle can physically stimulate a muscle that's in spasm and get it to relax. The needle can also stimulate a nerve which can then settle down (if irritated) or encourage healing/regeneration. It also sets up localised endorphin/painkiller production which again will act to settle things down.  I remember being distinctly sceptical (a true scientist  ) but when the physio put a small needle into my lower back and the whole of my left leg twitched and left the massage table, i thought there just might be something in it. It certainly helped with my irriated sciatic nerve and thus reduced the number of muscle spasms I was getting.

As I say, I'm as sceptical as it comes (homeopathy anyone ? ) but i do think that acupuncture can work for *some* things

Yes .. I suppose so and especially if it is stimulating blood supply which is turn promotes healing but glandular fever..  I'm not so sure 

I know, I had a friend who had acupuncture for glandular fever  and I couldn't see how it could work , i guess the placebo effect is strong

I did an hours sweatfest on the the turbo and another hour in the gym afterwards, I was indoors and was still effing cold!


Work now until 2am and I am as far away from the telly as I possibly can be ... gggrrrr

Pontypool 10k tomorrow, first race of the year.  Going to be COLD!

My brother is an acupuncturist. He doesn't know why it works either but he has mountains of evidence to prove it does.....

.. true, probably not much point paying to do a race when I could easily plod a 10km at home...

Pontypol 10k done!  Around 46 minutes, I think (stupidly forgot my watch), and if that's confirmed then I'm a happy puppy.  

Wore Pirate colours for the first time and had a couple of 'go pirates!'  

Feeling good!  Esp as tomorrow is rest day, so tonight I have 3 bottles of fine ale lined up

Fink, Going Long, Swim Smooth etc etc all reccomened swimming drills are done while wearing fins.  I'm not really in a position to do so as my local pool has an out right ban on using them due to health and safety concerns.  In truth, the use of paddles is also frowned upon too.  

Was wondering if this is a similar picture across the pools we all use? 

we use fins in  our club sessions, but I haven't tried using them in public sessions as I wouldn't want to whack anyone by mistake! The lanes get a bit busy sometimes. However, there is a session once a week where I am often alone, so was thinking of taking them along next time I go to that session because I can't see how they can object to that.

Fins are not allowed in any 'public' session either
I dont wear them cos they feck my achilles up 

1hr run before work and here I am until 2am again ....

Crap bike ride today. went out with SoupDragon the recce the Challenge Henley bike course; my legs were heavy and tired and not playing ball; it was fecking cold and I my sinuses produced industrial quantities of snot . still, we did about 25 miles.  still feeling a bit rough and tired, so will take it easy for a few days.

on the plus side - my dodgy foot can now cope with running for 30 mins which is fab

Thinking about it, not being able to use fins is for me probably a good thing.  I imagine using them would cause an overly pronounced flex in the ankle.  Something I imagine that's non too clever for someone 3 months after ankle surgery.  

Fraggle, take heart .. there wont be many who had good bike rides today as it is soooo cold.  How was the bike course?
