Welcome Robert.

Like me, I think most on here are going to pop their cherries on The Outlaw.

Nursey - I've read the first few chapters, love it. Thanks to whoever recommended it.

You may still get me there too if I can afford to bring old people...

Outlaw looks like a good one to start on, I had been thinking maybe IMW, to get a few extra months training in and it is probably the closest one to me, and could maybe take a caravan done there to stay.
O well decisions decisions.

That's quite a contrast there RD, IMW is supposed to be one of the harder IMs...

... You need a new name, opening offer...

And my favourite for students...

Ordered the other day on the kindle, to impatient to wait for the postman to deliver Read it all too, and already sorted out a training plan to lead me up to trying to improve on my half marathon PB in Oct.

First day of training plan was yesterday - started with a rest day. Can't start off too quickly

This is great. I'm going to have so many experienced IMen mentoring me for 2014.

Started reading Be Iron Fit. All makes sense so far. And an excuse for more shopping - HR monitor.

By the time your in to your training you will be wanting the top of the range Garmin GPS running watch too...and one for your bike.... Too much shiney gear in this sport

Already have a shiny Garmin GPS. I'm a kit magpie!

I have a Timex Ironman GPS the GPS signal can be a bit shakey on it, I so want a Garmin one now.

Garmin edge 800 on my bike & just got a Garmin forerunner 110.

I used mapmyride on the iphone for my first 6 months of training. Does the job if your on a tight budget. I still upload everything to mapmyride site as well. I like the workout calendar. Plan routes on Garmin connect as its not as clunky as mapmyride.

Last big kit purchase is the wetsuit. £100 budget for that. Should be gerting it on Monday, although cant try in open water as apparently the lake is too cold to open for swimmers

41 mile cycle last night, 3.5 mile run tonight, shins are stinging a bit.

Going to go for the competitive training program from the Don Fink book, although i will be perfectly happy just to finish the IM within 17 hours.

I have a Garmin 310. My 305 fell off the bike so I upgraded .

Next big purchase will be some bling wheels. I'm not sold on tubs for LD triathlon. I can't justify throwing away all that training and time and expense for the sake of a punctured tube.

I'm doing Fink's intermediate, but only 2 swims per week. even that is a large amount of time.
