before anyone asks I am still *technically* retired. bUt will be doing vit next year with NIcko and co.

In the mean time how's this for a plan.  AS I have now have an aversion to competing and have only been doing occasional runs  without a watch. I have decided I can handle running provided I don't know how fast or how far I am going. So I am going to follow a marathon training schedule loosely and not use any watch, Garmin or similar.

Any suggestions for a February/march/ April marathon, preferably with no giant clocks .

Milton Keynes marathon but I think that is in May some time ... you could pretend it was March tho

and I think FB holds the 'I'm retired' talking stick at the moment ... perhaps

its a proper run - from the thames barrier to the source in the coltswolds, 184 miles, self supported run

I am planning on entering Manchester when I get my Dear John from London. Apparently flatter than a flat thing, not that you will be bothered about the time! Blackpool is on the same weekend but is a 2 loop course and you get abused by drunks still on their way home from the night before!

Me face- done LDWA stuff before, not fancying off road, thinking road running is more the thing.

Darkness, Manchester is looking likely, have done Blackpool twice, even won it once, I am one of those boring  been- there - done - that old farts that I used to detest.  This is part of the problem, since my retirement there is nothing new that  I really want to achIeve and can't face going over old ground, albeit more slowly.

I am looking for a different perspective. I have only ridden my bike twice this Summer Seren, once to support some colleagues doing a round the fire stations of Cheshire ride, and once to watch tour of Britain wihen another colleague who's getting into riding suggested it. The VIt seems perfect as it's more of a reunion than anything else.

Hey Mon, good to see you again, although obviously I can't see you.

There's always the Coventry Way (trails/road/towpaths/fields) in early April I think, a nice littel 40 miler, no clocks anywhere but plenty of snacks at the various checkpoints, occassionally found in people's front gardens. No official start time either, just tip up between 7 and 9.30 if I remember correctly.

Hey Symes, how's it going with you?  I think marathon is at my limit of distance for the foreseeable future though snacks sound tempting.

White Peak Mara is nice but it's May - no clocks though.

getting fed up with gardening Mon??

despit what that witch Meldy says, I haven't retired from triathlon - only from IM distance - and am enjoying the short and off-road stuff.   also ditched the watch and HRM and just go on RPE for training purposes - works just as well.

must be loads of low keye events 'oop Narth for you to go for though so can't suggest any being a fey Southerner....
