Hi Folks - Quick race Rep
It has been an up and down year since France training wise. Put loads of weight on which took ages to shift and it was only after Bala that I knew i was going ok. Ran a crap marathon early April which put my head in bad place. Plus I aggravated a long standing injury. Then did the Fred whitton which while not fast, was really enjoyable and gave training a real boost. The result of all this being I didn't have a scooby as to how I'd go at Zurich.
Drove to Zurich in a van with a couple of Tri-Lakeland mates. Not a very comfortable journey but a f*****g good laugh. Stayed in a hotel in the town center so didn't see many pirate's. Had a wee crack with Hope, Garr and Nigel at the race brief.
Swim - 1:07:22 (IMF 1:08:37)
Didn't enjoy the swim as much as Nice. I'd just got into the water and was enjoying a piss when we seemed to set off. Swam about 30 yards then stopped, then the gun went off. I felt like I was in traffic all the way round. Knocked a miniute off last year so off to a good enough start.
T1 - 2:36 (IMF 9:35) Hmm! Moaned a bit about transition at racking on Sat but had to take it all back as it worked really well for me. Could have done with a little more room on the bike rack.
Bike - 5:39:36 (IMF 6:26:26)
Got into a bit of a downer half way through the first lap. I started to need a pee but had seen a guy get warned by a referee for taking a piss in what I thought was a fairly secluded place. All the way back into Zurich I was looking for somewhere to stop. I just can't manage to pee on the bike. This took away some of the enjoyment of HBH on the first lap but as usual the support was fantastic. I think I managed an ah haar! I eventually found some publis loo's half way back down the lake. Once i was back on the bike I enjoyed the second lap much more. I didn't see that many pirates on the bike. Went past Hollywood just after first feed station which I was surprised at. I think you were coasting matey! Funkin came past with a go pirates about half way round the first lap. I remenber thinking all the way round wheres Calf. I'd forgot he'd left his leg's in Cumbria a fortnight before otherwise he'd have passed me at some point.
Have to do some work now so will finish off later.
T2 - 2:55 (IMF10:18) WTF was I doing last year. Another fairly good transition. By now I was starting to think I might be on for a reasonably respectable time.
Run - 3:51:29 (IMF 4:28:57)
Ten miles into the run last year was where the wheels came off. This year i made sure I ate something at every feed station for at least the first two laps. It was mainly gels and about 30 second after each one my stomach tried to regurgitate it. I stuck to the plan though and it seemed to work. I thought the run course was quite good. A lot more interesting than Nice. The support on the run was supurb, a massive thanks to everyone especially Mrs Funkin, Rosey (bike and run), two girl's stood just before Mrs F, Garr and his super soaker and FB and Petal (Hope that high five on the bike didn't hurt). I ran with ATOM for a bit but wasn't very chatty, it was starting to hurt a bit by then - sorry mate! Last but not least thanks to Funkin. I think we really kept each other going on the run as we were passing at the turn arounds. Up the finishers shute in 10:43:59, job done and very happy. Enjoyed the finish a lot more than last year, and had a bit of a crack with Funkin, Artic lady and Nigel.
Post Race - sorry I didn't make the awards piss up but I have lost both big toe nails(one when I clattered the barrier 2k from home while talking to a lady pirate, sorry I can't remember her name) and after loading the van on Monday I was in agony and just wanted to lie down.
No Branded IM for me in 2010. I might do longest day if it's on and wan't to get a more respectable Whitton time. I also have un-finished marathon buisness if I can sort my injuries out.
Super report Disorderly! Really impressed with your improvement from last year!
Oh and glad to see another pirate that wasn't too chatty on the run! It does hurt a bit then doesn't it!!!

I've managed to get all of my photos up onto Facebook, follow the linky things below for the albums. I'm having a bit of an argument with Flickr right now, their winning, so it might be a couple of days before I can get the photos up on there as well. If you want any copies and since all these images have been compressed, send me an email with the file name & I'll send you the full sized image through. Happy browsing!
