It's been a fantastic sporting spectacle today and this evening. It's no coincidence our country starts with Great. Superb everyone.

I've not done a great deal for a couple of weeks, I've had a chest infection, been out on the bike a bit, 25 to 30 miles at a time. Out again in the morning, gonna do the loop on the Bolton Ironman course with Razor.

Working from sunny Abersoch today, having ridden over here at the weekend. Glorious 97 miles through the hills past Bala. Averaged 16.7mph and really enjoyed it. Punctured just as I arrived and feel a little guilty not to have fixed it and ridden on. Still - fairly race-specific 5:45 in the saddle and I finished fresh as a daisy with no hamstring aggro, so all good.

Bit of sea swimming and a couple of runs yesterday and today. After 6 miles of steep hills in the sun yesterday, I reckon I'll focus a couple of weeks on hill running. Another 100+ hill miles later this week. Feels good!

Glad you are feeling better Max.

Loving the team GB uplifting mood. Spent an hour in the pool last night trying to swim like Adlington. Apparently she has the best stroke mechanics and I tried loads of drills around improving my catch and bending the elbow more. Early days and it did feel like I was more powerful and higher in the  water.

Swim last night. Warm up - drills - then 4x400 on 9 mins - warm down.
Congestion levels marginally lower than they are for a long OW swim, but the click-click-click of my sinuses and all night mucus attacks confirm that I swam hard .

Bike hill reps later. Considering doubling up but not feeling very "Iron" currently.

Had a real moment last night where I just thought "why aren't I down the pub with my old mates, or having a glass of wine in the garden, or watching the telly like a normal bloke". First time in 18 months of doing this lark. I think it's because I enjoy the training and fitness much more than I do the racing.... and it's getting close to showtime.

No 30-min climbs on The Wirral, mate. But we have plenty of sharp little kickers that take 5 minutes to trundle up.... so the only solution on a short session is to trundle back down... and repeat .

I can basically do any weekend except not the bank holiday weekend, not 22/23rd Sept and not Sunday 18th Aug.

It would be great to get together for a nice hilly ride!!
