Re-run of last year's thread for anybody doing any 2012 iron distance race
OK so couldn't do my hilly 100 today, the route across the pennines had visibility down to 10 meters in some points, so decided to do ride out across Cheshire, saw Bobby Nobby at one point, not sure if I have been pushing to hard this week or nutrition wasn't great or a combination of the two but I did 93.5 miles and could hardly turn the pedals after that, so that's it for me and now into tapir, i have done as much as was possible and if that's not enough then so be it, but I am completely knackered and am looking forward to the tapir and then meeting loads of mates at Tenby.
Sorry we missed you this morning, what time did you set off? we were off at 8.15.Finished at 1.15 but riding time was 4.23.
I was one of the unfortunate one's who got puncture, front wheel slid from under me and I went down like a bag of shit and I've got the road rash to prove it, pics on PSOF.
Yeah, no probs mate, well done on your 100miles, we did the 100k. You must have passed us while I was getting patched up at the first feed station...
Well done to everyone on the long rides this weekend.
I'm now really feeling set up for a taper. Had a good ride today - a flat, local sportive gave me four hours of riding, then went for a 40 minute run off. Yesterday was a fairly tough 2hr run. I'm a bit tired, but not totally knackered, and looking forward to some shorter rides and runs next week.
Happy tapering !
Where did you find a flat 4 hrs round here ?? !!!
It really was pretty flat!
It was the OxBucks sportive - less than 900m climb over 70 miles. It's a circuit with Bicester in the middle, and starts just down the road from us, so v convenient.
Plus you got a free hot dog at the end .
Bargain, why didnt I know about that one? Joining us tomorrow ??
Not quite such a bargain - I I forgot to mention the £30 entry fee.....!
Busy day at work tomorrow, so I can't get out at lunchtime - may get an early swim in, though.
ok ... may see you Friday (and poss Thrusday for me)
Last training weekend prior to IMW for me. Lovely, hilly, 11.5-mile run in the sun on Saturday. Then a monster party on Saturday night where I danced my ass off . Then attempted to ride 120 miles home on Sunday morning. Wasn't feeling the love and I gratefully accepted a lift from the wife and kids who were passing in the car after 72 miles. Not ideal, but I'm not going to worry about it.
Looking forward to getting a bit of spring back in my heavy legs over the next couple of weeks. And then... gulp.... Tenby .
Enjoy your taper all you IMW peeps, you deserve it after all the hard work
I had a better week last week. Monday and Tueday were a write off due to family stuff, then Wed - Sunday, I managed 2 swims, 2 runs, 1 long bike and 1 gym session, so I'm quite pleased with that.
Kids went back to school today, so hopefully training can get back into a better routine.
Just signed up for this http://www.epicevents.org/section.php/45/1/cumbrian-cracker-cycle-sportive--sunday-november-25th--2012/7711c37ce4556255e650736c695239fb , if any NW based pirates are interested. Sounds challenging without being bonkers hilly!!
Looks a nice ride, BP. Solid training too!
Good read of "Going Long" last night. The section on "Peak Weeks" was spot-on. Last week should have been the first Peak Week and I missed it (there goes my chance of a Kona slot). But I'm mad for Peak 2 and some race-specific bricks. That and a distance OW swim are the focus for me this week.
Plus shopping for kit and finding ways to keep my fat face out of the fridge .
The most training I'll be doing yesterday and today is cleaning and putting new tyres on the bike
50 miles in the Surrey hills for me last Friday as my last serious bike session before Tenby, & a 10 mile run Saturday. I'm light on running miles but it'll be fine on the day, one way or the other. No chance for an OW swim as I has tickets for the cricket on Sunday, but 2k in the pool was OK. A bit of bike sorting (new chain, everyone knows gold ones are faster) and that'll be it.
Can't blame you for bailing, STIL, another 50 miles or a lift home, no contest really. Wrecking yourself just to get miles in at this stage is counterproductive anyway.
Hello NW pirates That looks like a ride worthy of post event and early christmas beers.
Glad I live South
