Pebble v his nemesis

Yesterdays Little Woody was my first long brick in prep for Arizona, even though the race itself was a farce, as a brick it was well worth the effort, bit disappointed that the swim was way short, at least 400m My plan was to cycle the bike at 65% of my FTP (functional threshold power 300W) which is what I'm aiming for at Arizona, this I did holding back on the climbs and very little free wheeling on the downhills, off the bike in 3h:13mins, legs felt quite dead to start but came back to life after about 20mins, ran relatively strongly, then died a little at about 22k, but still running and felt at the end that I could have carried on, so thats a tough 60miles followed by a 25k, (2h:02mins) run so pretty pleased with the run. Next test is the Vit.

nice one pebble.  did you have teh powertap for IMF?  is that the standard plan people use for IM - 65% of ftp?

No did not use the powertap at France, only bought  a few weeks ago, reading Coogans and Hunters book, 65% is a guideline for IM, so tried it yesterday, will try varying % over the next few weeks to see what I run like after them.

Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,Me,

Well the Vit was another good brick session, same swim and bike times as before but the run was 10mins slower than 2 yrs ago (1:57), but I was running stronger at the end than when I ran quicker, if that makes sense. Finished in 5:07. Training this week has been 2 runs of 75mins with a 2hr run over the mountains on Saturday and a 3hr hard bike yesterday. Its been a hard couple of weeks so a few days off wont harm, back into it on Wednesday.

Me me me.

I'm still training too, although my half-iron this month was cancelled due to a pesky hurricane. I'm having trouble making myself do the long bikes at the moment, so need to get that sorted over the next few weeks. Arizona is starting to loom a bit!

When is Arizona?

Arizona is on the 23rd of November

This is also an option for me now next year, Pebble, am requesting a full race report please, I have read Candy's but I get halfway through and can't see the rest for the tears in my eyes !!

I hope its going OK for the training, the course looks like your strengths are going to be utilised but I suspect even you will admit that you may need to back off the bike by .5mph to give yourself a better chance of running off the back ? Has that crossed your mind or are you going to blast the bike and survive the run ?

Rosey - this IS Pebble you're talking about! he's never knowingly not blasted the bike - even though I beat him at Florida but he still couldn't fecking run and catch me!! this man has negative splits - longer run than bike......LOL!!

Nah he slows down,  takes the p*ss, then blasts off.

FB, you are pressing all the right buttons, I'm gunning for your Florida time.

Nah, I hoping that all the little lessons I've learnt will come together, and it will click come race day. We will see.

Rosey, have you considered IM Mexico (29/11/09) next year?  Not sure how many slots they'll have given its a first year.
16/09/2008 at 17:12
anything that time of year would be good but might be a bit far for airplane recovery, 13 hrs+ some of the flights, nothing is discounted though, thanks for reminding me, slots will probably be more round the 50 mark I would suspect
