(another silly question)

Not even considering it til 2013, but... are Ironman entries first-com, first-served? Or are there other factors (qualifiers?) involved?

Flash your bling, you get in (except for Kona).

be warned though, some sell out pretty quickly. I think Florida took 5 mins last year!

Wow .... Well I'm thinking about IM Wales 2013, and I think 2012 is still open.

Tim - the UK ones tend not to sell out so quickly, you should be fine getting into IMW.

because the UK ones feature crappy weather and even crappier road surfaces.

I would disagree about crappy road surfaces at IMWales - compared to where I live in the SE, they are positively smooth! but sure - nowhere near the billiard ball smoothness of IM Switzerland or Austria (or Challenge Roth)

that sounds like music to my ears, Buddha! Happy to stand corrected.

Crappy weather? I love the British weather because we get ... weather. Might not say that after 112 miles on a bike in 30mph gales with hailstones, mind you.

I would challenge you to come over to IMNZ.  We take your drizzle and occasional potholes and we laugh at it.  Come here and get 140kph winds, a lake that had people surfing on the waves and a road surface that shakes bikes to bits with it's gravel and rough surface.

Bonus of the UK though, you actually get to race......

Ask the guys dragged off the bike with hypothermia in mid June at Bala Middle Distance last year.

Does anyone know anyone who has a spare entry for the Bolton Ironman event this year that they are not using? If so can you get in touch please.

Not sure that will work unless you get their ID ?

A friend of mine has managed it before so I think it should be ok. I know its not what the rules say but it is doable none the less. If anyone has got a spare entry for the Bolton Iron Man can you let me know. The time to be able to defer entry or get a partial refund is over so if someone has got an entry they can not use I will happily take it and arrange a price for it rather than it going to waste.
