As it was dry, (and my road bike ate its rims in the week), and windy I took the TT bike out today for its first spin since June.  I also put the deep secction wheels on for the first time ever to see how they behaved in the gusty winds.

I was plesently surprised - a bit gusty, feels a little like steering in treacle, but overall not nearly as bad as I thought.

  • weeeee - its fast
  • whirrrr whirrr whirrr - makes a nice sound

Downsides -

  • its impossible to go slow - (8 prs on strava on the way out before I learned to control myself)
  • everyone thinks you are a bike tart.
  • forearms were killing me for the first hour until I relaxed.  There are some muscles around the elbow that need some time to adjust.

Put them there tri bars on sooner rather than later to get used to them again

What are your plans for long bike? Ive been doing 50s and 60s when weather allows and will get up to 75 towards end of Feb and then up to 90 by end of march and then up to 100 ish through April. I cant think how else to build for an Ironman in may.

OC, my best wheels will be tucked away till all salt and s**t is gone from roads.

Well i did wash the bike tonigh - a first for me!
I did a 4.20 ish is ride for about 120k. The plan was for 4 this week, and 4.5 next but i felt good.
I have a camp 2nd week of march in lanza so i am trying to get a 6 hr ride done before then. the last day of the camp is the IM bile course..... Hmmm

OC - I was looking at getting hydration 'systems' on the bike sorted out for Lanza. Can you remember roughly how frequent the feed stations were, and how many bottles diod you carry at a time?

I had a gel bottle,
a bottle of water
and a bottle of Sports drink.

I generally drank the sports drink between aid stations, drinking the remains then ditching that on every aid station. the bottles were small 500ml ones. not very nice and no point collecting.
I used the water to drink for the first 20 mins, then to wash the gel glugs down, and also to suplement if i was running low of sports drink.
When ever i ran out /low i just swapped that as well.

I think the aid stations are roughly every 30-40 k. they shpuld be on the bike course description

Oh i had a frame mounted bottle and 2 behind the seat.(bontrager 36 pound ish rear mounted cage - works well and holds a saddle bag for 2 inner tubes and c02 cannisters too

Managed a 35 miler on Sunday, hated every minute of it, coach pushed me out of the door otherwise it wouldn't have happened at all, not just a loss of mojo but a loss of interest in anything bike/run/swim related at all which is kind of odd and annoying.

Based on your previous, that puts you down for a sub 10 then, Symes.
