Training gods continue to conspire against me ... Long ride out planned for tomorrow with Hokori now aborted and In charge of kids tomorrow instead. Looks like another mind numbing turbo beckons .

Anyone know how much trouble it's going to be to get a taxi from the airport to puerto del carmen with a bike box? (no idea whether this is something that i need to organize, or if there will just be taxis of all sizes there that i can squash the box into)

with close on 2000 people doing this and with the event being in its 22nd year I'd say they'll be ready for us, they were in Austria, France and Switzerland

I managed 3 hours this morning before I finally quit - it got to the point where I couldn't see the Garmin on the bars, so I reckoned the chance of cars seeing me was slim!! So it'll be watching F1 on the turbo this afternoon!!

I have just received a reminder for the final payment for the apartment and have paid, reminding me that this is not far away now.

I hope all is going well with training, at least if we get a cold, wet and windy day we should be well prepared.

I am arriving on the Tuesday and looking forward some sunshine.

Does anyone know ... probably OC ... (and I'm sure this info is on here somewhere but haven't the time (can't be bothered) to rummage!)

The bike route ... what are the descents like.  Are they long sweeping descents or are they the bum clenching ones where I'd probably be happier getting off and pushing my bike down!

I don't mind whooshing down hills as long as the road surface is good and you can see a fair way ahead.  Some of the lovely Welsh mountain descents scare the crap out of me.

Well,

FireMountain decent - nice smooth road, you can see for miles but has an initial cross wind till you turn into the wind.  Then crank it

Drop into La Santa.
nice smooth road, head to x wind being the only thing that can worry you.  See what the wind is doing then crank it.  Watch the speed humps at the start of la santa village

Famara
lovely smooth road, excellent visability, probably a light head / x wind, but just crank it

Haria.  7 s-bends - just like the alps  road is closed, and generally no wind.  Watch the corners, brake before then open it up on the way out.  utube clip  Once past the last hammer it into Haria village

Mirador del rio. Initial decent - road is rubbish for about a 2k and you can lose water bottles.  Hold on for dear life and check your fillings in your teeth..

Then it smooths out after a left tuen and its about 12 k of fast decents - excellent roads with just the odd dodgy corner

Teguise to vinyards - 2 k of so so rad but some x winds
conil - weeeeee but with a tight right at the end of it

donkey track 5k of technical winding road, with a tail wind.  most fin on the entire course   after haria that is

re taxis....
They are generally mercedes estates......

Cheers for that OC, good to know.

I have a http://www.whitehorsechallenge.com/ place if anyone wants it (21st April).

Was really looking forward to it but one of my best mates wants to go away that weekend for her 40th in Tenby.  Initially I was going to come back early for the race but sense prevailed.

Gutted to be missing it but have found a 100m sportive in Hay the weekend before.  Shout if you want it.
