Right - I'm in!

Registered yesterday, and hotel/flights all booked, so no going back now.

Looking forward to meeting you all there.

Just the small matter of shed loads of training to get in between now and then.  Oh, and as this is my first, expect me to be back here frequently asking for help and advice!

Incidentally, if anyone local (North West) fancies hooking up for some long training sessions between now and then, I'd appreciate it.

I'm in Newton-le-Willows SA, so not too far away from you.

I've actually already invited myself to your house next year via the DIY Half IM thread!

Well done Pudge!! Where are you staying in Lanza?

Staying in Playa De Los Pocillos, Timmy.  The hotel is the Seaside Los Jameos Playa.

I think it's only about 2km or so away from Puerto Del Carmen.  Going with the family so the hotel was booked on the basis of what was best for the wife and kids really.

We fly out on the 15th and will get to the hotel in the evening, so just hoping that I can manage to organise registration, bike racking, sorting head out etc, all on the 16th the day before the race.

We're at the Riu Paraiso which is on the same stretch of beach.

They're both on the bike and run course and 15mins walk or so from the start, so ideal.

We're going Mon 12th-Mon 19th, so I'll have time to check things out

Just a shame no-one flies there on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

We did look at that one, as I saw your earlier post and it looked nice, but they had no family rooms.

Excellent, I must make sure I get your number beforehand then, so you can give me the lowdown on what's what once I arrive.

True - if we'd have had our two boys with us, we'd have had to have gone somewhere else.  But we're cheating and leaving them with the Grandparents

We seem to be getting decent enough numbers for a good old' drink at the finish line, post swim, bike, run.

I've been watching some youtube footage of the Lanza bike course, looks nice.

When I was out on the bike yesterday, I shouted at the wind and told it exactly what I thought of it!  I don't think anyone was around when I did, but they would have had me down as barking mad if they'd have heard.

4k swim, SA?  Blimey, most I've ever done at once is half that!

I was out on the bike Saturday and Sunday, both days the wind reminded me of Lanza.

That said I dont think ill ever forget struggling to maintain 3mph on the flat into the wind having just had my legs trashed going up Haria.

Get used to the wind and climbing into the wind is my top tip.  You may be lucky and race in modest conditions but prepare for the worst.
