good point Farnie.  Also, there is still a fair bit of time until Nantwich, so don't write it off yet Parkbench; you might well be fine by then.  Definitely worth getting a proper bike set-up, for many reasons.  You *may* have to pay for this, but I think it would be worth it.

Loadsa time yet Parkbench! Don't write yourself off yet. Fingers crossed.

And can I just say... O.....M.....G...... I have got me a Proper Bike.... goodness me, it's a bit of a revolution, being able to whizz along with little effort, to walk along with it without it feeling like it's got a mind of its own, and to be able to cycle up hills without dying on my ar*e.....!!

Suppose I'd better enter this now, being as I have managed to carry out stage one of my promise to myself (to get a Proper Bike) - now, then, how does one go about this bike training mularky? Same sort of principles as running - speed sessions, long slow rides, blah blah blah?

Yup, that's more or less it, depending on your aims.  Might also be worth doing some upflats too to build leg strength.

To expand further, you may want to do some long slow rides first of all to see how the saddle feels as you don't want a massacre in your lady garden.  These will also give you the chance to see how the bike handles and see if there are any 'fit' issues etc.

Then fire away on shorter speedier sessions, hill sessions, and then maybe enter a sportive or two

Happy cycling (was gonna say 'riding' but thought that was too personal)

And that proves my point.  What is one man's meat is another man's poison

You think you've got problems I live in the Yorkshire both me and Baz where buzzing after the May race we didn't have to come of the big cog. Stockport only has one hill and that's to keep them from going over the boarder into the shire.

Nice one on the bike Basil we demand pictures so we can all go oohh!

I can do you some bruise photos. Slipped off the pedal yesterday evening whilst trying to ensure I'd got my saddle height right - one cross bar just to the left of my, ahem, delicate bits, and got another bruise on my right knee (not sure what I banged that one on). They're very purple. On second thoughts, no, you're not gettting photos of them

Oh no bruises bad unless you have a winni the poo plaster on it.

I wouldn't want a plaster there, Cake....ouchies when taking it off

Might get a dinosaur plaster to put on my knee though. But it wouldn't really cover it. Silly Basil.
