Rustman - Last year's route had about 1,500 feet of vertical, according to mapmyride. Year before about 1,900 feet.

Thanks, that doesn't sound too bad. I've struggled to find 30 mile routes round here (Skipton) that are under 1,000' (not that I do them quickly enough - yet!)

RustMan, I train around the Forest of Bowland, so not far from you. I did Outlaw this year, and  believe me, its FLAT compared to around these parts .

to a Yorkshireman the whole country is flat , if like me you just live in Yorkshire it is still very hilly!  I did the Outlaw this year and it was very flat with a  few rises that might account for the ascent if taken over enough miles!

so really if I do all my training in Yorkshire then I will find cycling anywhere else easier?

Maths chick. That's my plan anyway...

a little dicky bird told me, that the bike route is changing for 2013, to a 2 large  loops. Don't hold me to this though but it did come from a reliable source!!

The Outlaw was like climbing Snowdon or Ben Nevis! I got a nosebleed at the top of Oxtron Bank. Wow that air was thin!

I asked the supporters at the top, was that really Oxten bank!

Honest big ring all the way up

so cycling up oxton bank isn't going to prepare me for cycling elsewhere? Actually, I think I do know a couple of steeper hills round here

Ah, inside information, excellent. As long as they don't move it to Yorkshire I should be ok...

Oh Postie that is baaad news - you promised me a flat course!

01/10/2012 at 19:24

duck - it isn't very hilly round nottinghamshire at all really, so it isn't going to be 'hard'

07/10/2012 at 13:03

EP - I don't think they have released the bike route yet, but generally it isn't hilly.

07/10/2012 at 13:13

ditching beacon can be a bit of a bug*er I imagine! It is hard when there are other people going really slow and weaving around the road - discovered that on the great notts bike ride!

07/10/2012 at 13:13

oh, unless they make big changes to the bike route you should be fine

07/10/2012 at 13:23

I have to qualify what I said - I haven't actually done Outlaw myself, just live locally and know that it isn't very hilly

07/10/2012 at 13:29

when they release the bike route probably a good idea to head over here and practice sections of it if you aren't too far away then, you'll get to know where any inclines are, any dodgy bits to look out for (I know at some of the junctions they put bits of fake road down so the outlaws skip traffic lights etc, if you know what I mean - makes it safer too), and on the day you will generally feel better knowing where you are

I think the run is laps of lake and round to coounty hall, otherwise it would be a lot of laps

no idea really about your other questions - someone else on here will have some answers
