Pixie........Haven't you got the hubby on board......important foir the first one......last saturday mine had to go out just after 5 am for his long run so that he was back in time for me to go and meet broke for the training run/bike.......even though saturday is his main running day and i do try and make it a rest day....

 

 welkl done Lard on getting in the session early.....

Advice please - after starting Fink I've found that after about 6-9 min of warming up my running pace for z2 is pretty much my marathon training pace last year, if not a bit faster.

Not so today - even the slightest shuffle sent me straight into z3 and even z4. I don't feel ill, I didn't feel any different to any other day. So I walked and shuffled, but mostly walked until I was so cold after 40 min I gave up and jogged home in order to avoid hypothermia ... Never going below z3.7, and at times I was in z6 (which I didn't even think existed!)

Any thoughts? Was it because it was cold? Does the heart sometimes just go on strike like this? Hope it's just a glitch ...?

do you take your resting heart rate in the mornings Brit.............I have started taking it and it definitely showed that i was going down with something last week...( sometimes shows when overtraining )...and when i exercised my heart rate was well too high for a couple of days........

you then have the choice of resting more.slowing down with the training .... or just going to a higher heart rate...........i think you have to be careful with your choices......

I would keep an eye on it

If you are becoming ill your heart will know before you do, so perhaps the symptoms haven't shown yet?

EP - I am also a teacher, and made a decision that this week would be an easy week training wise because of the extra stress of being back at school. It has worked for me, and means I won't feel guilty about not doing sessions and will be fairly fresh for next week

you do need OH to be on board though or it will cause all kinds of problems

Maths I think the main issue is that I've had 2 wks of 9+hrs sleep a night so 6-7 is bad! Plus as you say getting back to things. Today has been awful and ended in the last 10mins of the last lesson of the day with a student waiting for his mum to take him to A&E having managed to trip in class and cut his face so badly it need stitches!

Hubby just thinks I'm mad and doesn't say a word but I feel guilty about taking too much time out which is why I traing each morning but this week has just been a fail!

Just checked the pool time table for a swim tomorrow night and from 12 lunch it's booked for swimming lessons and clubs until closing time! Great!

Oh well have new pirate kit now so have to train! The bike jacket needs to be worn! Plus I have to take the lad swimming as he's doing the swimathon so I have an excuse

Seren - just checked resting HR and its pretty normal. Maybe it was the cold this morning. I'll wear more layers next time and see how it goes ...

... Or maybe I should take a week off work, just to be on the safe side

I am glad you are enjoying it.
Aerobic training is hard because of the volume not the intensity. if you enjoy it then getting the volume in at z2 brings lots of rewards as you can get massively fit from it.

One of the major problems is having a low boredom threshold.
It takes time to do the consistent training, and it takea time for tje rsults to start to show....

I like the idea of no zeros...(found it in the recent endurance corner book)
Ie instead of aiming to see how much training you can do, concemtrate on not missing any - ie do something every day.
Not sure how that fits with 1 day off a week for recovery, but you get the idea...

every time i go swimming i tell myself as lonh as i do 20/30 mins then thats better than zero.....and have managed to do the full hour each time

 

Off  to do a different park run today......will run it with my OH and then he will run home to make up his long run...he understands me wanting to get the sessions in as he always gets his running sessions in

Week 5 done and dusted with 2 bikes combined into 1 (bike to town, faffage, bike home!) and 1 long swim instead of 2 short ones. (1m in 30mins is never gonna happen so 1hr swum!)

Next week sees the 1st of the brick sessions and ice/snow predicted. I see plenty of turbo time and trail shoes on pavements for more grip! I will get 2 swims in this week
