I though the ethos of the Pirates was there is room for the sub 10's, room for the fag smokers and those that cross the finish line swilling a pint the fat men that finish and everything in between. Isn't  that what what inclusive mean? I don't think that Fegan is trading on the pirate name anymore than Iron Holgs was. So in both cases not at all, imho they are, pirates it part of there Tri identity  and ther would be as much bru harrhar if they ignored it. Plus their  achievement reflect well on the Pirates.

Somebody mentioned the Buccaneers as a splint group. Groups that splinter are often damaged in the process, both factions  come out damaged. So surely the buccaneers should be seen a spearhead or cutlass point.

Calm seas and fair winds.

some people gave me a right bollocking for daring to appear on the official video of XTERRA  NOT wearing pirate kit.  some even accused me of wearing Tripetalk kit ffs.   so if you've worn pirate kit in the past, it seems you HAVE to wear pirate kit in the future??

'A right bollocking' is a bit strong!  It was all tongue in cheek in the context of the 'Pirate Spotting' thread.  Although I can understand the outrage at being accused of wearing tripetalk kit, sorry about that.

This is all turning into the Judean Popular People's Front.

You mean I wasn't the only one watching?  On C4?  Well I never.

Mind you, it's been repeated often enough.  It'll be turning up on Dave soon.

Larks' tongues. Wrens' livers. Chaffinch brains. Jaguars' earlobes. Wolf nipple chips. Get 'em while they're hot. They're lovely.

Sh!t I just can't help myself pushing product to you lot can I?

As Ju were.

The issue is now being blown out of all proportion, I agree with that.  Perhaps I was to vociferous in making my points yesterday.  Whilst I fear a further bottom smacking, ill try and clarify,  but realise im potentially treading the hazardous path of Ctrl v.

Im not saying who should and shouldn’t race in pirate kit, ive never criticised Rosey for the sponsorship logo, it was a one off.   But I don’t see anyone in favour of sponsorship on kit.

I still stand by the thrust of my argument but realise I may have jumped to conclusions, im afraid the concept wasn’t  explained clearly, and a number of factors compounded that.

Looking at it from a non race team perspective, ive read phrases like leverage pirate brand, discounts and sponsorship, ive seen the kit Joddly used at Kona.  Yesterday I looked at the Buccaneers website and saw banner adverts and if im honest what really put the wind in my sails was the Meridian advert and the comments ‘nut butters and fruit spreads are to die for’.

I now understand a lot of this is misunderstanding, the site was is in development but I reacted to what I saw.

Clearly this is being discussed amongst the pirate race team members and I applaud that not everyone is in favour of advertising.  I wasn’t aware of that, but was aware of Joddly’s willingness to race at Kona in free redesigned kit, that compounded by the adverts led me to wonder where the lines were drawn?

I am not having a pop at the Buccaneer concept, I support it.  Ive said this countless times.  Im not against getting discounts for Buccaneers and Pirates, FFS ive arranged race entry discounts and freebies for pirates myself.

Unless im mistaken not all the Buccaneers are in favour of the advertising?  I just cant see why its needed, if the discounts are available via doing magazine pieces etc.  For me this is the thin end of the wedge.

I thought most of us did this for fun and that includes room for those with sub 10 ambitions.  For me the fun is about giving, supporting, all in it together, Buccaneer or otherwise.

People have and do give a lot of time contributing to the pirates in all sorts of ways, we pride ourselves on support.  If you add commercialism/advertising into the equation and it proliferates and is perceived that a minority are benefitting I think you risk losing the support of the majority, people who are happy to give their time to help out at feedstations etc.  If that happens we could lose everything which is special (to me at least) about being a pirate, if thats being sanctamonious then so be it.

I shall reserve judgement for now and seem to be in a minority of one.

I'm just frustrated that I recently paid 54 quid for a two year subscription to the magazine when I now see I could get it for a tenner a year through British Triathlon.  Doh.  Almost 35 quid wasted.  I could have spent that money on nut butter.  Then I'd be really fast
