<br class="Apple-interchange-newline" />Morning All

I was wondering if anyone's got my top (pink and grey lycra hoodie) and (blue) arm warmers? I chucked them at the pirate support group on the run just before the finish chute bit.  Daffy seems to think the pirate lady with the labbie might have them?

If anyone does can you pm me please? If not no worries - it'll teach me to be more organised in the future** <img style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" src="http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/forum/smilies/smile_smiley.gif" alt="" />

** disclaimer: at shorter distances!!

Ferret had my vote!  Everytime he passed me he was mincing down Mincing Lane with his hands twirling the handle of a meat mincer!!

I too think Gladys 'bought' the Committee!!  They are both 'naturals' though!!

I have to agree that Ferret gave Glady's a mince for his money.  Before witnessing the final 'mince off' I thought that perhaps I might be a contender.

But I was knocked sideways with the grace and athleticism of the main field.  It takes talent, years of dedication and sacrifice to become that good

The last I saw, SteveHo had them, he & Mrs SA (the lady with the labbie) were just clearing up when I went to retrieve my hat which I also chucked at them during the run.  I don't know if he passed them to someone else though, but someone's got them!

I missed the party so please can we have a list of the prizes and who they were awarded too

One person was a DQ for abusive behavior in registration the day before! Can you imagine?  Most drafting was 2 mins penalty, couple of DQ's for dangerous riding. It's quite interesting.

If it was a lady with a laddie then chances are it was Mrs Wildwill not Mrs SA!

Having seen my race photos, I can only say I'm amazed I didn't make the mince-off.

Hi IronPingu (doesn't that name suit you better??)
Muffin and I are staying with our kids at Bluestone. After braving the Long Course Weekend in a little tent, we've decided we're hard enough for IronMan, but too camp to camp.

Oooh, very nice.  I've booked a caravan after last years boggy camping experience.  Must admit, after Outlaw I did really want a long soak in a bath.

Probably because you were too fast for anybody to notice

Riding through the pirate feed station was soooo uplifting, I felt like stopping to take it all in   massive thanks to you all and hope the stroppy woman on horse back didn't give you too much grief

I'm another one that didn't recognise you with the Tiger hat on TST thanks for the support I don't know how you keep that level of enthusiasm going for so long.

Sorry we couldn't make the pub but my press-ganged shipmate had to be home mid afternoon.

Thanks for the big wave Cake.

Swim OK but did get into a few congested bits 1:18:58

T1 stomach cramps spent about 7 Min's on the loo

Bike started off slow but got stronger after about 35 miles which lasted until the last lap then had to push hard back to HPP hated the wind and got caught in the rain not far from HPP. 6:26:53

My shipmate managed  4:01:48 run.

Total 12:01:26 which we are both happy with.

IMUK next for me hoping this will have made me stronger.

What a fantastic day that was!

Organisation was outstanding and all the marshall and feedstation support was unbelievable. The Pirate feed on the bike was just such a massive boost that it seemes a bit like an unfair advantage.

The swim was a bit of a blur for me. I started at the back of pen 3 and still managed to get myself swum over twice. About half way down the outward leg, my goggles started to leak, so I adjusted them and they started to leak worse. In fact they filled up, and it didn't matter what I did with them after that they were constantly full of water. Fortunately with the lake being so narrow I could site on the vague outline of the bank so I did that. Every now and then I emptied them out, got a look forwards and carried on swimming. Finally came out of the water in 1:39 with my eyes stinging like crazy.

Sat in T1 listening to the commentator saying that there were people still in the water who weren't going to make the cut-off and decided I'd better get my finger out. Pulled on the bike gear and out to the racking area, pausing only to grab a handful of sun cream to slap over myself. Saw FB and Petal at the bike mount which was a nice lift.1 mile out on the bike I was still trying to decide if my eyes were ruined from the swim. Got myself settled then discovered that the blurred vision was being caused by a thick coat of sun cream all over the sunglasses. Pocketed the offending article and decided to continue. Key learning point for next time: if something ain't right, stop and fix it. By the time I reached T2 my eyeballs felt like someone had sandpapered them.

Really enjoyed the bike. I was passing people regularly, and hardly being passed. I kept giggling to myself and thinking "I'm actually doing an Ironman!" Pirate feed was brilliant, and special thanks to the lady pirate who scavenged me a couple of gels when the previous feed had run out and I was starting to worry a bit about the nutrition plan. Lots of wind, then some rain, then some hail then some more wind and finally back into T2 for a 6:40 bike split.

Another epic transition and onto the run. I was just passing the finish chute for the first time when Harry Wiltshire finished thus guaranteeing a cameo on the telly.Felt great till just about 16 miles when I just stopped running. I don't remember making a conscious decision to stop, it just happened. Mixed up run/walk for the remainder, chatted to lots of people on the walk bits, including VT'd who was still incredibly cheerful considering how uncomfortable he must have been. Finally into the last lap and down the chute, accelerating all the way up to warp factor 10 minute miling to go through the tape for a finish of 13:32.

Had a brilliant day, made better by the support. I felt like a pro athlete at times, even if I didn't perform like one. Mentally, 13:30 was my everything goes like a dream target and to be 2 minutes outside that with the wind on the bike course was really satisfying. Even better, I never had a moments' doubt that I would finish from the instant the gun went off. Must have got all the doubting out of the way during the week.

Thank you Pirates. You rock! Now all I need to do persuade the family that I need to do another one.

Good report NV - you're Ashford Tri aren't you?

One of my highlights was a big hug from your clubmate Rob G in the lake at 5:59 (he's an old friend, not just a random bloke btw ) - really cheered me up and stopped the last minute nerves........

..........after all what else would you be doing at 6am than standing waist deep in water hugging a bloke in rubber

04/07/2012 at 11:53

nice new name Neil....

and I never doubted you'd make it after Marshman once you got your head into the challenge and you did that superbly.  congrats!

04/07/2012 at 11:53

Oh and thanks everyone for the pointers re my kit - I'll see if I can make pm contact

If I don't get it back it really wouldn't be the end of the world though!

In my defence, I don't remember ever mincing. Must be a trick of the light.

Also not sure why I quoted you before, was trying to quote Cheerful Dave... I'm good with computers me. Almost as good as I am with tents.
