not sure if I am going to do this or not. The pool near me that is doing it is a 25m pool, I have no problem with that, but it has 6 lanes and says max 60 people - so, 10 per lane which to be honest is a bit crowded, and there is only a 90 minute session for it. I guess the point is that it would make me do it. I don't think I would be raising money for charity, so will have to mull over the pros and cons I think and see how the sessions available fit into the rest of my life!

How long do they give you to swim the 2.5k?

03/01/2013 at 13:43

Oh the session is 3 hours.. I might sign up for this. Problem is I dont think I can raise money for it due to having to raise money for the london marathon - which i am going to fall short of by quite a bit and will end up self funding mostly /sigh.

I've done it for the last couple of years, and haven't raised money.  Entry in January is half price, so I just make another contribution myself, works out as a cheap swim really, £10-15, hat, medal, someone to count your lengths, and a target to aim at, fairly early in the season.

did it last year withoutraising and they didn't give any hassle.like Tri.just made a small donation myself

oh, do you get a medal? think I would have to go for the 2.5k which I know I can do in 90 mins, pretty sure I can't do 5k in a 90 min session

03/01/2013 at 14:30

oh, just realised I had made a mistake - so the sessions are 2 and a half hours long. Question is, would I be capable of doing 5k???? what happens if i can't do it in the 2:30????

mathschick I did the 2.5k in 65 mins & I'm going to do the 5k I thought sessions were 3 hr? but anyway JFDI I think is the thing!

I have never raised money for this as I do lots running but half price is 5:50 so slap so rude not to enter!

Was thinking of the whole family doing a 5k team entry, can anyone tell me how this works, would we all need to do 1k each or can the rest of the family do what they can manage and I do the rest to make up the distance?

If I sign up for 5k but only do 2.5k will i still get a medal? I know i can swim 2.5k in 1hr20mins but have never actually swum further than that

Thanks for the info about raising money. I am signing up for this

It's 1 week after my first marathon - the VLM. Shouldn't be a problem right?

the concessionary price is higher than the non conessionary price - wtf?

It is 4 hours at crystal palace! Anyone else going to Crystal Palace?

03/01/2013 at 15:58

thanks for the link Ferret, sounds like it should be ok for what i had in mind if family are up for it

looks like different pools have different length sessions. Well, while I was sitting on the turbo I had positive thoughts and decided to sign up for the 5k - wouldn't be a challenge if I only signed up for the 2.5k

03/01/2013 at 16:33

signed up for the 5k - better start doing some longer sessions then

03/01/2013 at 16:59

i've only been swimming about 4 or 5 times in the last 25 years .. but i have swam 2k-2.5k in my last 3 or so swims... It takes me about 1hr 20mins and i'm shafted at the end of it. The cut off in my local pool is only 3 hours.. so of course..

I signed up for the 5k swim haha I hope I do it... we shall see. Guess I had better add some swimming to my VLM training!

Ok I'm in too have done nothing for the last three months due to a piriformis injury started training again this week so have signed up for this to give me a target to aim for

Currently I can swim a length max before I am gasping for air so this is going to be a challange .....bring it on well worth it for a great charity

ITB, I've used Aldershot Garrison before (lovely pool with a 7 foot shallow end!) but do they do swimathon there? Had forgotten about the Surrey one but never used it, seems to always be divided up into a 25M when I have passed it.

K2 in Crawley is a 50m pool but the date does not work for me so I signed up for Horley Anderson which is 25m.
