I can't recommend this highly enough.  Been doing it for 12 years, I even did the 10k for 3 years!  This year got a lesson from Duncan Goodhew.  Compare your 5k swim time to your 1/2 marathon time. Plus try to raise some money for a great cause.

The wife and the Dolphin have been doing this for the past few years, which is their sole swim based open event each year. They love it, and even got a new towel as a prize.

I do the 5k each year as an early test of my IM swim fitness, it's a cheap session, and someone else counts the lenghts for you, so a no brainer realyy, all you need to do is swim.

Registered in interest I wonder where my nearest one will be.

I'm thinking of doing a 5K swim each day of the event, so a 15K swimathon weekend. I'm not sure how quick my third will be, but I like a challenge!

Registered interest thanks Cake. Need to get in the pool for practice, and this'll make me do it ready for Welsh long course in July.

Is there anywhere that does it in a 50M pool darn sarf?

02/01/2013 at 20:37
I am dropping down to the 1.5k this year and hoping to do it MK way.

Does anyone else think the number of participating pools is reducing?

pain in the neck that cardiff is doing it the weekend later............so is the weekend of the DIY half ironman.i could do it friday morning before travelling northwards

I looked at the Surrey sport park but they're saying that they're doing it in their 25m pool

03/01/2013 at 13:25

not sure if I am going to do this or not. The pool near me that is doing it is a 25m pool, I have no problem with that, but it has 6 lanes and says max 60 people - so, 10 per lane which to be honest is a bit crowded, and there is only a 90 minute session for it. I guess the point is that it would make me do it. I don't think I would be raising money for charity, so will have to mull over the pros and cons I think and see how the sessions available fit into the rest of my life!

03/01/2013 at 13:41

How long do they give you to swim the 2.5k?

03/01/2013 at 13:43

Oh the session is 3 hours.. I might sign up for this. Problem is I dont think I can raise money for it due to having to raise money for the london marathon - which i am going to fall short of by quite a bit and will end up self funding mostly /sigh.

I've done it for the last couple of years, and haven't raised money.  Entry in January is half price, so I just make another contribution myself, works out as a cheap swim really, £10-15, hat, medal, someone to count your lengths, and a target to aim at, fairly early in the season.
