Yes I could see how the thought of you, Meldy and Melli in the water would be really horrible.

Oh, you said...  Never mind.

There is a definite sense of foreboding when you are standing in the water waiting for the gun .... and hoping it misses !!

That was the same one I think we were swimming along (fighting for breath) and every time I breathed to the left there was a helicopter in my eyeline and they were playing Ride of the Valkyries over the loud speaker, that was a very very surreal moment!!!    pirate

Nothing in life can prepare you for standing on the start of an IM start line! Best ever was Roth when we were so busy chatting, we didn't realise the gun had gone!

Mon, I remember bumping into you and a handful of others at that first turn in IMDE where we were all just treading water. It was like trying to walk your way around the swim course!

Drinking the bar dry in Nice was quite an achievement, so well done to all involved.

Lol, min, never mind the gun, I missed the whole start, oops. moral of the story, check where the swim entrance is, and don't pop back for one last good luck kiss! Was a tad embarrassing, but the men whose start 15 mins later I ended up in were jolly nice.

lol, lots of memories, Yes I was there at the start but this was in 2004.

I thought I was in IM heaven, I had arranged to meet 2 Las Vegas showgirls, Candy and Monique, and then these 2 showed up

This was just a very small beginning and a passing meeting that was to explode in 2005.

The warm up race for IMCH2005 has a few people here

There are other pirate outings on here

I suffered trench foot after supporting that race.

We did all warm up when the evening entertainment came on though...

Good to see that the kit looked as desperately camp on you lot as it does on us newbies.

Yeah? and your point is?

It all started with that innocent question "Is anybody doing Ironman Austria?" should have ignored it, but I have to get involved.

The wet Viturvian was an experience, at least I didn't put my foot in a dead owl that year. Roadkilltastic!

Vitruvian 2005, id not noticed the significance of my transition spot until I got back into T2 and had to feel around in the 1 foot deep puddle to find my trainers.

I was so wet I sat in the puddle and did a wee while I put them on

the wet Vitruvian of 2005

a certain person all wetsuited up - "I need a dump but I can't be bothered faffing with getting if off". I didn't think any more about what I thought was just a passing comment.

later did we find he really needed that dump so he did - in his wetsuit in the water

even later I found out that I was behind him most of the swim....

despite that - it's still one of the best pirate stories

Indeed. And I hugged him at the finish.
