Timing Chips

A brand new slant

You've probably all experienced races where you have to wear a timing chip or transponder. This summer in a race in the States, a very well known young triathlete breezed in and out of T2, and then returned because he had left his chip behind. Now for the rest of the story....the athlete in question is 14-year-old Rudy Tolz Garcia, who started tri at age 11 and happens to be a double above-the-knee amputee, losing both legs to bone cancer as a small child. Rudy had changed his prosthetic biking legs for his running ones but left his timing chip on the biking legs!

Remember Rudy the next time you think you're having a tough race.
