With the sun beaming down on Yorkshire I have opted to sit at the computer and enter some events until it clouds over.

Entered wiggle's ''Flat out in the fens'' 152 mile option. Did the 112 last year to see if it was possible prior to my first foray into Outlaw. I was so suprised to complete it that the psychological hurdle of the ironman was lowered a notch or two, that is until I stood in the lake on the day! Anyone else up for 152? What's the farthest youv'e been in one go? This is 2 weeks before Outlaw , there must be some shipmates up for it

The year I did the 112 there was a guy doing the 152 that overtook me like an exocet missle on a soft ride
That day was one of the hottest days of the year,it was BAKING!!
The molehill at the end felt like a mountain after all that flat

I'll be doing it - probably just the 112 miler though - 152 would be a bit more than i've done in a day - done a couple of 140 mile audaxes before though so tempting.

The flat is harder than you think, bit like the Outlaw it can get windy out there. My first Olympic tri was the only event were it was HOT , I forgot to drink being an rookie at the distance and out of T2 felt dreadful couldn't drink at all , did a very flat 10k in 1 hour 22, which even for me was slow...

Loooking forward to this already

You've done 140! Is there a 12 mile step to far??

04/03/2013 at 18:44

Make it a 300km, for even MORE confidence at outlaw!

http://www.aukweb.net/events/?From=01%2F05%2F2013&To=4&Days=&Category=&Dist_min=300&Dist_max=Only&Aaa=&Region=

Also plenty of 200s in May-July (typically around 130 miles)

Quite a few of them in Yorkshire, and (appropriately) only a fiver

mmatt , I will check this out , as a triathlete the entry fees are ridiculous! Spent all my money on wimble ball and the outlaw, but the evans rides are cheapish, did a rare fell run around the corner for a fiver with a T shirt and tea and biscuits...

that looks like a great series of events, might have to make a few enqiries! As usual the branded events are billed as the toughest out there until you look a bit closer , cheers

It's not that it's more a group of us are planning to smack it round in a kind of chaingang style group and 152 miles of that may be a step too far - in fact several steps too far - at least with the 112 we should get close enough to the finish before blowing up.

I did 140 when I was 16. I'd not do 152 two weeks before the outlaw though. That might be a push.

2 weeks before is to close for me to do a long hard ride

I was looking at doing the 112 as confidence booster, but decided 2 weeks is too cloase. Guess I'll be working one of the feedstations (hope to see any pirates riding through) or driving the brrom wagon (hope not too see any pirates)

It can get pretty windy down there which makes the long flat bits even harder

I've always worked on the basis that long bike rides don't take anything like the recovery of long runs - you get tired but you generally don't get the same muscle damage.   I think the 112 would be a good workout 2 weeks before - I did it last year and it is pan flat so even when you are tired you can still keep turning a gear over when any little hill would kill your legs.   The first 2/3rds ish (from memory so might be a bit more or less) of the 112 is with the 152 too so you can set off in the same group.

There's always this in Yorkshire, only 90miles, but some challenging climbs, and it's in May, so ideal training ride as you build up to the 152 miles in the Fens

I'm doing it as part of my preparation for IMCH

popsider , I know where you are coming from, I am on the cheshire cat in a few weeks but am on the medium option of 62 or something to accomodat the group from work , at least it will be social up to Mow cop and then who knows. As triathletes we spend a lot of time 7m from the rest of the field , it's good to chat!

orange cannon look forward to seeing you there!!!

I think that 2 weeks before Outlaw will be perfect for me, last year I did no training at all for 3 weeks , on purpose , and it worked fine. So 2 weeks is close but will be the last time I do any thing at all until the Outlaw ( I don't hold with keeping the legs ticking over!) Each to his/her own that's how we make it work.

Burn plodder, if I can get the Saturday nightshift off I will give this a go as it is very local, cheers!

I'm on the 62 miler. It's a nice route, rode it last week but starting from home. Mow Cop at 60 miles in is NO fun!

Thing about that Fens ride, if you have the wind on your back or it is still you have a nice easy day.  If wind picks up it can be 'orrible.

See you there Matt but I am fairly certain I will be forced to walk mow cop, my cv and bike legs fail on the big hills (not enough practice!)

Teddy , it's always always always the weather, got round the etape du pennines ( with a bit of walking) but the weather was perfect ..on a normal day it would have been really tough

I'm entered for outlaw as my first IM and I'm a complete newbie to almost all of this.

But I did my first century ride last weekend and enjoyed it and should do another one before Outlaw. However with Outlaw half in the middle the only available option seems to be flat out in the fens. Would I be mad to try it 2 weeks before outlaw? Ideally I'd like to do the 112 as a final confidence boost but if it all goes wrong on the day it could be the complete opposite.

I took me 7hrs 19mins moving time to do the Cambridge 100 , and I stopped twice so total time was 8hrs 19mins so I need to be quicker before July 7th.

If it helps I'm fine after the 100 training as normal this week, I'm following fink intermediate.
