Sounds like a (legal) wonder drug on the IM talk podcast. Anyone tried it, if so for how long, what doseage and what did you think?

Never heard of it until you mentioned it, but went to the website where it says that
" In a Gold-Standard, double-blind, placebo controlled study, aerobic threshold increased by double digits and lactic acid was reduced by 15%."

However no link to said study, which raises suspicions a bit with me. Anyway I've emailed them to see if they will provide a copy of the study.

If you scroll back through the episodes coach John seems to rate it, and from the darkside:-

Rosey uses it, I'm sure he'll be on here shortly to update you on his progress with this stuff

Cheers for the link FF. Just emailed Ric Stern to ask his opinions as well as he's an old friend who I have lost touch with.

Viewing the link, people say  extreme endurance aids recovery, rather than in-race performance. I guess that means you can do 2 or 3 sessions back to back. However I am not clear why lactate buffering is useful in endurance events when lactate threshold is not generally exceeded.

I think lacate buffering is used to prevent the worst of lactate buildup over the duration - you might not exceed the threshold but it still has an effect on muscle performance even if sub-maximal. if you are a very efficient, you should be able to metabolise the lactate as you go but in reality that's not the vast majority of athletes and it builds up.

Good idea Dusty, although if that were true I would be running sub 2 hour marathons and doing sub 8 hour IM's

"costs you about £30 a month though"

erm... and the rest. try adding p&p even after the IMT discount, I am sure it cost me £40+ last time.
