Hi all,

I am interested in doing the 100km of the sahara, looks like a very nice race over 5 days, as nice introduction to ultra running:
http://www.100kmdelsahara.com.
It runs over 5 days in the desert in tunisia and the organisation provides everything, also i believe it is not in auto-sufficiance.

I guess i am looking for people that would be interested in joining me for such an experience.

I don't have experience in ultra running but I have done some marathons.

So who is up for it? You know you want it!

he riel, i think you'd be better looking at something a bit bigger if you're after an intro to ultra running. i don't know how the 100km is split but i'd imagine if its over 5 days no one day will actually be an ultra as such.

Sounds a tad easier than des sables ?

The distance is demanding, about 120 km to run in 4 days is definitely not a stroll.
The grounds are difficult and the course is entirely off road.
The heat and winds are unpredictable climatic conditions.
There is a nocturnal run, fascinating, but definitely an added difficulty
5 legs in 4 days definitely need a good training to the muscular recovery.
To help you our important assistance will foresee to the following:

The entire route is marked out so as to avoid orientation problems
Luggage will be transported by the organisation during the race
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided by a catering service with suitable italian products, so as not to create any stress to the organism, already striving for the race
A big tent/canteen with tables and chairs where everyone should eat altogether seated at their ease
The water supply is unlimited
The organisers will supply the camp showers
Sleeping mattresses will be provided by the organisation for the nights in the tents
Medical assistance with an Italian team
Satellite telephone facility
All the services and facilities have been provided so as to assist the participants who wish to take on the important challenge of running through the desert on foot.

well 5 days in the desert and 4 running, here is the detail:
1th Leg CHENINI - GARAT EDDOUIRI about KM 24
2nd Leg GARAT EDDOUIRI- CAMPO LAARAJ about KM 18 + 7 Km nocturnal
3rd Leg CAMPO POZZO - AOUINET ESSBAT, Km 42 marathon
4th Leg AOUINET ESSBAT - KSAR GHILANE, about Km 28

That does sound pretty tough if you consider that you are running in the desert! don't you think so?

well cougie you guessed it, for me is to get a taste of what the MDS could be before trying in 2008!

i think you'd be selling yourself short by aiming for just 100km. providing you drink plenty, running in deserts isn't as hard as you would think. MDS distance desert events are easily in the reach of determined people who are willing to train.

at such short distances per day you'll have an awful lot of time on your hands just sitting about.

doesn't it take 2 or 3 years to get into the mds?

can take a while,
