Just enough to numb the pain...

Interesting - given the choice I'd take wind over rain. Living in flat Lincs, I'm use to the wind - there's no shelter once it's blowing. Rain - yuk!

Positive - not yet!!

good luck to you all (runners & organisers) I ran this in 2008 with a mate who is no longer with us, just remenising now of how scared we were but boy how we enjoyed it, remember the pain is only whilst the race is on but the memories last a lifetime. have a great weekend hope you all acheive your goals.

Will join fat paul in that one.  Good luck to all running this weekend.  Should have been with you all but alas injury got in the way.  The wife is still running and so if you see a chick in purple compression calf guards then please tell her to get a move on   There is lots of great support going to be there and so hope that is enough to get you all through.

I hope WiB managed to get through with a decent time and the win.  And all the best to veggieboy and others through the night.  It wasn't as mucky as we were expecting but after several laps and the (current) rain, I wouldnt want to be out there!

Had to pull put after the second lap as the scar was being pulled and getting increasinlgy painful.  Bit frustrating but expected.

Daz - after that first 20 in 2:35 it was a bit of suffering til they end. The first half of the course stayed good but 2nd half churned up a fair bit after 3 or 4 laps. Not much slower but bit harder work, especially under torch light. The blokes and girls still turning in laps are superstars!
Hope you are patched up soon mate.

Binned it at 50 miles in 11:58 which was bang on my schedule

Unfortunately I got uncontrollable shivers and had to head back just after setting out on 6th lap

Think I got my nutrition wrong and caught out by the rain which I didn't recover wrong

2nd half of the course really churned up

Hardest 50 miles I've ever run

Need to go back next year

Just my second ultra. Wow. That was a bit different. Finished the 50 in about 15:30.

I sprained my ankle on mile 15 and managed to carry on. Should I go to A& E or just ice it?

The last lap was very lonely.

Sian we ran together for 3.5 laps, let me know how you got on. I hope the leg is okay, sorry I had to go but I was begining to freeze.

Don't worry Ian and I are still talking. He stayed to the end and even picked up my dirty socks .

Did get a little muddy didn't it. My shoes are not recognisable at the moment!

Not to sure if my shoes came back or I was just wearing ceaser's camp.

How are the legs today? I am better than I had expected by certainly no recovery run just yet! I am going to clean my shoes today though (I said that yesterday too!). They are in desperate need of it.

VB - Hope you are suffering no ill effects. Well, nothing beyodn what running 50 miles does to you. Sounds like you did the right thing, never a nice choice to make though. I think 11:58 may have put you reasonably high up in the 50 such was the attrition rate!

I am surprisingly chipper this morning

No blisters, toe nails all in tact and walking with no (or at least not too many) problems

My time would have been 7th in the proper 50 mile race. Two ladies finished in just under 18 hrs on the 50 and they loved every gruesome minute of it as we cheered them in.

I stayed around until 1st and 2 nd finished. Many thanks to James and Robbie for taking care of me. Does anyone know what happened to Dave the mad Irishman in the skimpy yellow shorts or is he still running around out there?

Good stuff. I did see the 2 ladies you mention a couple of times. Each time they looked very happy!

WiB - FFS !

You can have no idea how much that has just peed me off

Seriously that is hugely impressive

Nice report WiB.  That first lap was fun....perhaps we forgot there were another 4

Sorry VB! Were you in the TriTalk gear? Think I recognised you from Thames Path as I was at Cookham aid station. Will be at Winter 100 helping out so will try to say hello.

Cheers Daz, it was certainly fun... Not seen a blow up as early as that before. 4 laps later it didnt seem like a good idea though in terms of setting the ideal overall time.

yep, that was me

you were going like a train when you overtook me, very impressive
