I have had a quick look and could not see a current thread mentioning this. I have just entered the Exmoor Coastal Ultra. I just want to know if anyone has done this before and if so what shoes did you go for/should you have gone for? The general information suggests it is not a road race and so does the name but is the terrain enough to warrant trail shoes?

Cheers.

I would wear trail shoes Have done the seaview 17 which uses the same paths and would say they make a difference

While you're about it why not tag on to my team......See EXMOOR 30/30. Think boots as you have to carry kit.

And its for a cause.

Didn't realise you were doing this WiB, I'm in too. Been very impressed with the amount of info, briefing packs, route cards etc we've been sent so far

Well that was absolutely brutal, no better word to describe my day other than brutal. A combination of being underprepared, carrying an injury that flared up and simply hugely underestimating the course profile made it one of the toughest races I've ever done.

Getting lost and doing nearly seven extra miles didn't help either my mood or my legs.

Awesome scenery, beautiful area that I'll certainly be back to again. Hopefully there'll be another couple of checkpoints next year and the confusing parts of the trail will be marked a little more clearly but all in all a great day out

I did the marathon but still managed to clock over 30 miles, what worries me is i got lost on the way back! Great race all round.
