Morning all,

ok, it wasn't a fell race, but a tough trail race warrants a bit of a mention, right!?

11:50am sunday, after 23hrs 50min of running (walking through the night) I finished the Ridgeway Challenge from Ivinghoe Beacon to Avebury. 85miles and 9,000ft (which broken down's not that much) but the going underfoot was pretty rough. The ground was hard and very stoney - ankles and left knee prety bad now.

But chuffed to have gotten it done and it's given great confidence for other races. I'd never done an overnight, so it was a great experience!.

Now, get the legs recovered and time to focus on shorter stuf for a while - cross season and a few autumn/winter fell races. Looking forward to 'em.

well done Garrett! Must have been an experience, you're right to be chuffed - get some well earned rest.

Well done Garrett.
How did you find the night section? Only done one but found it passed very quickly.

I decided to take it vry easy through the night and actually walked the lot. I met up with two guys at the mid-point and set off into the night with them. Was easier to nav. and se the path with three hadtorches and the company was great. The next morning was when it got tough. I was tired and just wanted it to be over. When I started to run I was very sore but knew a sub 24 was there for the taking.

Got the cross country season fixtures yesterday so need to plot my autumn/winter cross and fell races now.

Cheers DH.

Recovery going great. Ankle's almost ok and the knee's not too bad now either. First bit of training tonight - gym - then I 'll go for a short run over the weekend.

Best of luck with grisedale.

How'd you go last night Matt?

Ross,

I've not done the Welsh 1000's race, but was thinking of doing the 1000m tops 'just for training' one weekend, and I reckoned it was less than 25 miles from the first top to the top of Snowdon but them I would have needed to close the loop as it were which would have made it more like 30-35 miles, so I haven't done it yet.

serious weather at grisedale
the wind coming off catsycam to swirral edge was so strong it was nearly blowing us off, didnt race it hard as it was a new experience for me but did okay.
worst weather conditions ive run in though
fell over a number of times and went up to my arse in the bog at one point.
no need to carry any water though
mmmm maybe 3 shires next

Garrett-Haven't seen results from last Wednesday yet but raced OK. Managed to jump a barbed wire fence to avoid a bottleneck at first style:)

Ross-I've entered the Welsh1000s twince now but never made it to the start line, maybe next year. I thought it was about 20miles.

Hopefully going to be running the Welsh3000s in the next month or so (North to South) with a group from my club.

Darren-Well done

Hi Solly,

I haven't myself, but it seems to be the normal thing to do. My local (Sheffield) running shop offer Walsh resoles, but I think they're an agent for Pete Bland, so I guess that's the place to go.

Tell us how it goes.

Well done Garrett.

I think if you do fell running you start to lose track of the difficulty of none fell running events.

9000ft in 85 miles is over 1000 ft per 10 miles which any road runner (like myself) would consider a very tough course. Then do it 8.5 times and off road - that puts it into perspective me thinks!

Well done at Grisedale Darren, sounds like it was a cheeky one!

Did anyone get up to the Ben Nevis race at the weekend?

I did and had a good race. Last year I managed 2.16.59 complete with fall and broken thumb on the way down. However, last year it took me about 1.29 to get to the top.

This year I ran 1.59. It took me 1.17.40 to get to the summit. Taking more than 10 minutes off that climb represents some seriously worthwhile training over this summer just gone by. Just hope I can hold on to it and keep on building.

Next 'fell' races in my calender are the Isle of Wight series. Anyone going to them?
