Anyone done these races?

Interested to know what the course is like and distance on each loop (10km?).

my housemate did this a few months ago. He loved it. i think it was a 10k lap.

not sure on the course itself but the course map shows its a bit hilly

Was in for Lightning 12 this year until I got injured. Looks like fun and would be tempted to do it if it fits in with other races.

I was in a pair this year, I covered about 93miles. I'll be there, giving it a go solo next year if i'm injury free

The 10k loop is a bit lumpy but not massively hilly.

done both this year as a soloist best fun ever

have done the TR in the past 2 years in a team of five equally good fun

both events next year are at catton park

Did  TR24 solo this year, it's awesome. I clocked each lap at 6.5 miles so just over 10k (seems pedantic to mention the .3 of a mile but when you mutiply your laps up to total miles covered .....)

The route was a mix of field, path and forest trail which weaves in and out of the camping area and crossed a ridge a few times each lap all of which combined to just about keep the route interesting in spite of the multiple loops. The forest trail in parts was rocky, rooty and twisty which made it frickin great fun in the dark..  My Garmin clocked 9000ft of climb over the 150KM I covered.

Lived up to its reputation as having a festival vibe. The support given to solo runners is superb.

A few of the 'competitive' runners from large teams who barged past me with disdain that suggested having to wait to pass was a close second to slipping in a cow pat and managing a full body roll in a shoulder high nettles did invite an 'ankle tap' or two; thankfully the support recieved as a solo runner kept my darker urges at bay.

I enjoyed the heck out of it and will indeed be back next year.

What I meant to say to WIB and Daz is it's rubbish, don't waste a weekend, run anywhere else ...... (GRRRRR two places dropped on last year if WIB and DAZ run).

Cheers Alistair. Ha I was keen to know the specific distance.
Noticed top runners doing 50-55mins for first few laps, so presume not as speedy as one thinks!?
I'm tempted by the 12 at the moment, a good substitute for a 100km event..which I'm struggling to find, that sits well in the diary.

Daz - 100KM Spartahlon qualifier?

14/10/2012 at 09:58

Daz - Deceptive, profile and terrain mean it should be quicker however single track and twisty in places, with so many runners out and the breadth of paces will make it hard to clock a superfast time, first few laps should have been the fastest though with the quickest runners getting to the front and not 'lapping' the soloists until later.

Interesting. So worth getting some fast laps in to start with. What about shoe choice- trainers ok.
Oh as for spartathlon, no chance! I'm in agony on 26miles road, prefer softer undulating courses.

Shoes - will be weather dependent, this year there were rumours 3 weeks out it would be rained off, a weeks dry hot weather before the race meant that it was rock hard, I wore road shoes and it still battered my knees. I know in other years it has been a bit of a mud bath.

One to consider for another year - not for 2013, given it clashes with Lakeland 50.

Just had an email to say they have cancelled the event (weather)

Cancelled as opposed to postponed? Fancied a crack at it, clashed with another race so if it is postponed would try to make it if they accept more entries.

I'm still ill so a result for me.  But shame for those ready to compete!

Cheers Daz I will see if I can get an entry in if a new date is announced then.

As you say, shame for those who were ready to go! Hope you are well again soon.
