Not really. Took part in the Dunstable Challenge (20 miles option, actually c. 21 miles), but I intended it as a training run, not as a race. Felt knackered the whole way round, possibly because I'd raced my parkrun the day before and equalled my PB... Also because it was very hot. This was my first self-guided race, so good practice. Sort-of wish I'd gone for the 26-mile option, particularly since it was actually 27 miles or so and therefore technically an ultra, but I'd taken someone else from my club, who was only running the HM, and I couldn't have kept her waiting an extra hour or more. Got a bright red buff as a memento.

Then we went to Whipsnade Zoo for an hour.

Just dug out my track spikes for a 5k on Wednesday... I am tempted to stick with my trail shoes as they are more comfortable! I don't think I can quite manage a zola budd effort yet.

WiB - I wasn't sure track spikes were meant to be comfortable? Have you got your handheld bottles ready? Feed stations planned?

It is all in hand guys... 1 packet of shot boks per lap. 2 handhelds. The weather is looking ok so will go with just a jacket in my pack and the emergency foil blanket. Apparently the track is floodlit, I am not taking and chances and will leave a drop bag containing my head torch I am going to aimto be fast through the aid stations, no sitting down! strong run out to 3.5k, pick up my pacer and head for home!

....do you need a car following just in case something doesnt go to plan..its all quite worrying y'know...and following it up with a run on Sunday it just mental!!!!

Does your pacer have his cape ready? With the 'P' embroidered on it?

Talking of which....enjoy....

As everyone seems quite taken with Shotbloks, I warn you I will be trying to get you all to eat the out-of-date ones I have when I turn up at the same events as you!  I bought a box of them and found I just didn't like eating anything that chewy when running.

10/09/2012 at 20:57

Rosemary - I'll gladly help you eat up the out of date ones - think I converted everyone on our run Saturday to them!

10/09/2012 at 21:07

Great!  I just have to sort out an event where I can foist them on you all!

10/09/2012 at 21:16

See the Little Bit Further Thread - there's an idea for an event in there...?

Rosemary have you tried just holding them in your mouth when you run? I quite like shot bloks but like you I'm it a huge fan of spending ages chewing while I'm running so I tend to just suck them as I run, that way I get a slow release of carbs as I go and they disappear fairly easily
