Hi all,

Looking forward to this one. Could anyone advise of any good races in the London/south-east area that they have completed in the lead up? I am looking at the Country to Capital 45 and the Thames Trot 50. They are a good few weeks before the race and would be a good chance for me to check kit and pacing, I would think. Any others that you know of?

Both excellent races but i think both may be full up already!

Ah, any ideas for a Plan B?

Not really! Those are certainly the most ideal in terms of time, distance and course. Sadly I very rarely get a free weekend so am restricted to what formal events I cam enter so I have to use my time wisely and fit the longer ones in when I can. It's not ideal cos there's far more motivation in an organised event! Thankfully Im not too fare from two rural circuits one being 40m the other being 35 which are enjoyable to train over ans have sporadic village shops to utilise as checkpoints

Olly, my source maybe wrong... Both those events.it would seem are still accepting entries according to the go beyond website, I'd get in quick!

Great, will book them up come payday...first warm up race tomorrow with the stort 30.

good goin olly, 30 miles now puts you in great shape for this if you keep your training plans up! I've not run that far in two months!

Im fine having the races to motivate me, just a case of whether I go out and do the 5/6 hour trots that I have planned...
The stort 30 went well enough, completed in 4:13. Picked up a couple of valuable lessons also, primarily- don't run past an aid station without taking something as you just may miss the next one! I went from mile 5 - 20 wAter-less! Your 35/40 mile training run sounds ideal...I plan on doing the full 100 path in five instalments over the coming months.

what, the exact 100m of the course? that's excellent prep, shame I live so far from the thames!!

Olly, which 100 miles does it start  / finish? Run a lot of it before but not sure if the right bit

starts on the banks in Richmond alongside the old town hall, finishes in oxford adjacent to the ice rink (nr the train station)

Yep, I'll do the full 100 of the Thames path, Richmond to Oxford....I live in London so its easy to get to/from points along the route.

This looks a very interesting race

There is a 45 mile trail run in Essex Feb 24th if anyone thinks that fits their training plan - St Peters Way. Bound to be fairly flat. Entry link via RW event search but limit of 50 places so don't wait too long.

Do any locals have an idea of how firm the ground is likely to be ? I have read that a lot of the first half (indeed maybe the whole race) is ok for road shoes - any thoughts ? I'm curious because it looks like they dispose of anything you leave at a check point - for example, your first pair of shoes if you change them.  I don't live close enough to have a detailed recce run....   Thanks
