Hi, wish I had stumbled on this post earlier, I'm only doing day 1 as a warm up for another ultra in 4 weeks. I'm lucky as only live 15mins from the start! Can't say I've recceed the start though! Did part of the route on the tring ridgeway run a few weeks ago. This is my furthest distance to date but am so excited -I am a plodded though and will no doubt be at the end but I'm happy with that! Looking forward to meeting everyone

Hi Sian, welcome to the thread - and to your first ultra! Plodding is perfectly acceptable in an ultra, and, unless you're looking to win, positively encouraged!

I'm only doing day 1, but i'm travelling a bit further! Coming from Cambridgeshire, via Oxford to pick Loulabell up LOL. Still, really looking forward to the race, although i've covered about half the Ridgeway, this start section is new to me.

See you there

Hi all, welcome Sian,

Getting excited now. Currently looking at the 'essentials' I need to take - may need a bigger bag!!

Anyone know how soon before the start we need to be there?

hi sian, see you there-blimey charlotte, you are prepping early!!! ive had a vague thought about what to wear if the weather stays as it is-but thats as far as ive got

The details are now on their website saw them this morning, think registration starts at 8.30 walkers at 10, runners at 11 and elites at 11.30

Crawlers at 7......

03/11/2012 at 15:43
I was hoping to start with the walkers to give myself an extra hour!!

Sian - thanks for that, just had a look, getting nervous/excited now.

Pleasure - I've just heard that snow has fallen already in the Brecons today which is where my next one is in December! I'm now in panic mode!

Welcome Sian, and congrats on stepping up to your first ultra. I haven't done this part of the ridgeway either, but it looks cracking and I'm sure it'll be a good one. I leave at the other end if the ridgeway, so doing all 3 days so I don't have far to drive home!

I think we all register at 8, but then have a few house to kill I until the 11 or 12 start...but annoying. I did a 14 miler today with some tempo pieces in there. Hill session tomorrow then taper. Would like more than 4 days resting, but a good session will hopefully give me some confidence which is worth more than sitting on my bum, IMHO!

Looking forward to meeting everyone. Im going to need a decent bag too - want to take a down sleeping bag as I'm predicting some chilly temps.

Ps Lou, no I don't snore, I'm an angel when I sleep

do we have to register at 8am? or can it be later? i have a child to get to school first!!

03/11/2012 at 20:33

Hi Everyone,

Onlyl just found this thread too!

I also have to get kids to school, so don't expect to get to registration until about 10.

No idea how to train for this as am new to ultra.  Did 9 miles yesterday on flat, 15 on ridgeway today and probably will try 15 again tomorrow.  Not sure if that's enough, but it'll have to do!

Will hobble for three days if it isn't!

Sounds like a good last weekends training Richard, don't sweat it. I don't have any school runs to do, but I'm also not particularly keen to hang around twiddling my thumbs for 3 hours between reg and race start. Seems like that's the schedule though...unless 8am is just registration opening time.
03/11/2012 at 21:13
I think it's opening time! I also have to get my kids to school - hubby collecting them and then bringing them down to meet me at watlington
03/11/2012 at 21:40

Don't panic - the registration cannot be  at 8a.m as the pick up from Tring station is not until 8.30!  As I understand it the walkers' briefing is at 9.30a.m. with their start at 10a.m., the faster ones have later briefings commensurate with their later starts.

It opens from 8am and I imagine it'll run through with plenty of time for us to get there and start without hanging around for hours -the race info is available on their website now.
