I just put bike-style shorts over my leggings if need be, although usually find my normal leggings are just fine anyway once I get going (even in yesterday snow and ice). Seren - you are just hard core!!!

Off to check out Nicks link. Hmmmm, Barbie Pink - then my daughter will be fighting me for them!!

Jesse - I got some warm and very thick ones from Lidl earlier in the winter. Only worn twice when very cold but quite imressed. And cheap!

I've got some of those too Elspeth - have yours got the windproof panels on the thighs - like you say, great price and definitely do the job; use them for biking too over shorts.

Cragchick, yes those are the ones. Quite good when hail is pounding on your legs! Doesn't stop it stinging your face though!

no, I guess we need a balaclava for that!!! came across one of my old mountaineering ones the other day, would scare the wotsits out of anyone if i went out wearing though I think!

Yes, those leggings served me well on the -12+ days we had last winter.

I just got some Craft ones and they are warm and very comfortable, just did a 40 mile ultra around the Brecon Beacons in them

Legs never felt cold and when they got wet dried really quickly.

Have a look at http://www.mightcontainnuts.com/ got Craft stuff on buy one get a second half price at the moment.

Got some More Mile ones as well. Cheaper and not as well built. Also the material can catch the hairs on your legs and rip them out.

And I'm a triathlete, so I'm smooth most of the year too. I guess I'll have to let myself get hairy if I want to be an ultra runner, it's probably the key difference between the disciplines.
