UTMB fallback plan

The draw for the UTMB ballot takes place next Friday.  I would like to think that everybody on this site with an entry will get picked, but realistically it isn't going to happen.

Is there perhaps a European event of similar difficulty, with less competition for entry, that we could have as a fallback plan for those who are unlucky?

Thoughts?

Don't know about similar difficulty but have a look at either the Swiss alpine ultra or the mountain man ultra both in Switzerland

Tor des Geants, I'm still trying to figure out how I can convince my wife, and then my body, that I can do both.
Failing that the Brecons ten peaks looks great

If I don't get a place I'll probably plan a self supported WHW or Cleveland Way.

That looks awesome! 200k a little far for me but the 2 middle distances look great!

What about a park run?

You should really try the http://www.trailvsb.com/en/ - starting in Verbier, Switzerland.

The 110k loop overlaps the UTMB route, passing through both Champex and La Fouly.  There is also a CCC equivalent (the Traversee) which is run over the second half of the full course (the Boucle).

I've done UTMB, and both Verbier races.  They are all fabulous if you love running in the Alps.  Actually I did them both in 2010, and have signed up again for TDS and the Traversee again this year.

Swiss looked good as a substitute til I realised it clashed with the NDW100

Andorra Ultra Trail, ( Ronda Dels Cims), 170k, 13000m D+!! Its the hardest trail on Europe.

I've not entred UTMB. I have it on my list to do and am planning to attempt to qualify (and get through the ballott!) for CCC. Good luck to all of you in getting through and then in completing your races.

In looking to qualify i quite fancy The tour of the Vanoise is in late June. Its 72km and only gets 2 UTMB points but I've walked/camped the route and its awesome. So if you fancy something in the same area (its prob only 40km from Chamonix) then it might be worth a look. You can find the link on UTMBs qualifying races pages.

I guess this thread has an added significance for many of us now!

No luck Ben?

Sadly not!

I will still accomplish my main running objective of 2013, which is to surpass my accomplishments of 2012!
