Pulling up during a half

I had a really bad experience in the Bath half today. I pulled up after 8 miles for no particular reason other than a mental thing. Preparation for the race was great and I felt really strong. I was nailed on for a PB of around 1.20. But after 8 miles I mentally just gave in. I wasn't injured and didn't feel bad. Ive battled through sticky patches in races before but today I just had enough! Anyone else experienced this before? What are the possible reasons? I am really beating myself up now and feeling low after months of training for this one. Any advice would be appreciated.
