Gear Pick: Skinni Minni Super Slim Shake

When you think of protein shakes, images of ripped men pumping iron in the gym often spring to mind. But this needn’t be the case - there's a bone fida reason for adding protein to the diet, as it's an essential part of the recovery process. If you want to speed up recovery time and tackle each session on top form, you should definitely consider adding the odd protein shake to your post-run regime.

A little intimidated by the muscle-building, bulk-enhancing shakes that dominate the market I was relieved to discover Skinni Minni, designed specifically for women. The Skinni Minni Super Slim Shake is a 70% Whey Protein with added Green Tea and L-Carnitine to 'boost your metabolism'. The product contains no fillers, no added sugar, is virtually lactose free and comes in appealing choco loco or banoffee flavours.

Currently right at the heart of the high mileage weeks in marathon training, I’ve struggled to control hunger and I've needed that extra boost to keep me going. Skinni Minni Super Slim Shake in choco loco tasted delicious and was easy to stomach post workout. What’s more, I’ve noticed a real difference in recovery since adding the shakes to my regime - both in controlling hunger and cravings for the rest of the day and in my energy levels. Skinni Minni offer a great women-friendly solution to the protein shake dilemma and have converted me from a protein-shake skeptic.

I understood that a post run protien shake needed to have a good level of carbs... is this not true?

I like to have a protein shake after an intense workout, whether it be my long slow run, speed session or w eights.

I usually have it with a banana or a fruit smoothie, to get a good carb hit.

Is this good for post run muscle recovery or is it just aimed at stopping hunger? I am looking for a low calorie shake that helps with muscle recovery. Any ideas?
