My strengths: I’m a very positive person – for me, the running drink is always half full. I’m also extremely determined and have a huge desire to succeed - I’ve just completed a first class honours degree in Law around my full-time job... so on to the next challenge!
My weaknesses: I’ll admit to not being the most organised of people so I have never followed a structured plan when training. But my main weakness is nutrition – I have always believed lager and grease to be two of the major food groups.

How do you feel about making the final five?
I think I’m still in shock, actually! I’m a little bit scared to pinch myself in case I wake up... I feel honoured to have made it so far and I’m determined to enjoy every second of it. I’ve already met so many lovely people along the way and I can’t thank everyone who voted for me enough. I’ve also realised how much I have to learn about running and, from that point of view, it has been quite a humbling experience. I'm determined to take as much away from this as I can and I know that it will transform my running forever.
How do your training plans differ from the training you've done before?
I’ve never actually followed a training plan before! I’ve just gone out for runs and, if I’ve needed to, just gradually built up my longer runs until I could manage the required distance. I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the training plan but I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of the sessions.
I’m lucky enough to have a running track and a country park very close to where I live so I’m looking forward to getting out on a variety of different surfaces and hopefully enjoying the training experience as much as possible.
What are you most looking forward to?
There are so many fantastic things about this that I guess I would have to say the whole experience. I feel like I’ve learnt so much about my running already that my running style and attitude have changed beyond all recognition - and the training has only just started!
Once I’m in Paris, post-race, with a smile on my face and a glass of something well-deserved in my hand, I think it's going to be wonderful looking back at how much I have progressed and developed as a runner since starting on this journey.
What will be your biggest challenge?
Not trying to do too much too soon! Whenever I’ve gone for a run in the past, I’ve treated every session as a competition against myself. If I managed that time on Tuesday, then surely I can go a couple of seconds quicker on Thursday, right? So making myself slow down, stick to a specific pace and follow the plan will actually be pretty tough for me.
I’m also relatively new to running and have rapidly discovered how much there is to it beyond pulling on a pair of ASICS and heading out the door. It’s going to be a big challenge to take in all the new terminology and tips, to follow the great advice from Sam and the rest of the team and to arrive in Paris with all that new knowledge put into practice. But then again, I do love a challenge!
