Good for Age

Sarah (aka RunnyRunRun on the forum)

Target: Sub 3:35 ... a Boston Qualifier.

Marathon PB: 3:45:11.

My strengths: Hills (!) and my bloody-mindedness – I have an inability to give up!!

My weaknesses: 10ks for some reason. Although I do pick the hilly ones...

See Sarah's training schedule.

About me: "In a year in which I've completed my first half marathons, my first marathon, qualified for World's Toughest Mudder and won my first Parkrun, 2012 has also brought me a spot in ASICS Target 26.2 for the Paris Marathon. I'm not the fastest runner by any stretch of the imagination but I MAY be the most determined to succeed. I've only been running for 2 years but it feels like I've been running all my life and it's one of the things I use to define myself. Going outside in lycra? I'm a runner. Carrying toilet paper on long runs? I'm a runner. Peeing behind trees? I'm a runner. I run because I can. 5 years ago I was 5 stone overweight and a heavy smoker. My idea of healthy living was adding salad to my doner kebab and having garlic sauce. Garlic is a vegetable, right? Now... I run 35 miles a week and think that lycra is an acceptable clothes choice in public. I’ll bring a drive to succeed, a dodgy sense of humour and give a warts and all run down on training with the experts."

More about Sarah...

How do you feel about making the final five?

I’m really excited about making the final five! The opportunity to have a structured training plan tailored to me and to have the support to get the target time I want is just fantastic! I never thought something like this would happen to me but I’m ecstatic that it has.

How do your training plans differ from the training you've done before?

They will differ in that I’ve never really had a bespoke training plan, so it’s going to be really exciting seeing what I can achieve with something structured and designed especially for me.

What are you most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to having a structured training plan and knowing exactly when, how far and how long to run. It'll be good to know if I follow the plan, then I’ll achieve the time I want, barring injury or freak weather!

What will be your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge will be sticking exactly to the training plan and not adding in any extra runs just because I feel like going for one. Also, behaving myself and not having an extra mince pie or two over Christmas!
