ASICS Target 26.2: Meet our Final Five!

After some furious campaigning in the forum, the final line up for our ASICS Target 26.2 project has been decided. Meet our final five and give them a virtual pat on the back in the forum!

Final Five
Left to right: Steve, Adrian, Sarah, Mel and Adrian

First Timer - Steve

Target: sub 4:00.

Marathon PB: This will be my first.

My strengths: I’m a very positive person – for me, the running drink is always half full. I’m also extremely determined and have a huge desire to succeed - I’ve just completed a first class honours degree in Law around my full-time job... so on to the next challenge!

My weaknesses: I’ll admit to not being the most organised of people so I have never followed a structured plan when training. But my main weakness is nutrition – I have always believed lager and grease to be two of the major food groups.

PB Hunter - Alex

Target: Sub 3 hours.

Marathon PB: 3.06.10 (London 2008).

My strengths: Dedication to my training and the determination to finally put all the pieces together to succeed this time!

My weaknesses: Giving myself a hard time when I don't do well and things don't go to plan.

Good for Age - Sarah

Target: Sub 3:35 ... a Boston Qualifier.

Marathon PB: 3:45:11.

My strengths: Hills (!) and my bloody-mindedness – I have an inability to give up!!

My weaknesses: 10ks for some reason. Although I do pick the hilly ones...

Busy Lifestyle - Melanie

Target: A sub 4.30, although to complete and enjoy the marathon would be my ultimate target.

Marathon PB: I haven’t completed a marathon yet. Although I did my first half marathon in November 2012 with a time of 2.06.

My Strengths: I’m stubborn and wont give up!

My weaknesses: I’m stubborn and wont give up!

On a Plateau - Adrian

Target: Under 3:30 would be a dream come true and a lifelong ambition.

Marathon PB: 3:44:29 (Boston Marathon, 2009).

My strengths: Focus, enthusiasm, will-power and the continuing desire to keep improving and succeed. Running gives me a feel good factor that I'm addicted to (imagine a dog with its head stuck out of a car window - that's me running!)

My weaknesses: Diet; namely real ale and a sweet tooth. I believe this is the root cause of my stagnant PB. Others may argue my lack of speed work in training could be the answer.
