Haile Gebrselassie's sudden announcement of his retirement from racing has sent shockwaves through the running community. While we wait to see whether or not the running legend reverses his emotional decision, we relive the moments that made Gebrselassie the running legend he is today.
Over one of the most successful running careers of all time, Gebrselassie amassed 27 world records, two Olympic medals and eight world titles. We've trawled the archives to find some of the career highs and lows faced by the world's greatest distance runner.
Amazing, I grew up watching this great man and he was a great influence on me getting in to running and then triathlons.
Great to see him get the massive respect he deserves, could have delved deeper back to his humble beginnings and what he does for his country and running in general, but what a brilliant man. If he retires, then they should erect monuments in his name.
