The Taekwondo Champion
Having run many times for Macmillan, Mark Williamson decided to do something unique this time – run the London Marathon dressed in taekwondo costume.
"I wanted to combine a few loves: taekwondo; marathon running and, obviously, Macmillan. My parents both died as a result of cancer and I’ve got a number of very close friends who are fortunately in remission. Macmillan has been there for each one. I can’t speak highly enough of them – and I can’t do enough for them."
The stilt-walking world record-breakers
People generally run the London Marathon on foot – but not Charley and George Phillips. They decided to do the whole thing on stilts. And, amazingly, they broke the Guinness World Record.
"We walked the marathon on stilts for Macmillan in memory of our mother and we know that she’d be incredibly proud. The support has been amazing all along the way and the Macmillan cheer-points have been fantastic."
The 'ordinary person' pushing herself to the limit
Michelle Thompson was given the all clear after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer nine years ago. However, her sister Jeanette was not so lucky and died of bone cancer aged only 18. That’s why Michelle took on her first marathon in 2012.
"I’m just an ordinary person that’s decided to do it. So to actually cross the finish line was amazing. Macmillan means everything to me and their supporters really are the noisiest bunch of people ever. When you hear your name being shouted out – oh my goodness, that really does give you that extra bit of strength."
