With over 100 running events of different distances in various locations, there's a running event out there waiting for you. Whether you're looking for a place in the Brighton Marathon or in the Plymouth Half Marathon, Cancer Research UK has many to choose from.
Meet the Twisted Cider Team
Old friends Shane Green and Ben Weller are no strangers to running for Cancer Research UK. In the 2012 Bath Half Marathon, the pair ran with friends Kevin and Chris carrying a cider press weighing an astonishing 80kg. The Twisted Cider team completed the 13.1 miles in under 2 and a half hours and raised over £3,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Not satisfied with this challenge, Ben and Shane are going it alone, halving the man power and doubling the distance at the 2013 Virgin London Marathon. Shane knows only too well the cost of cancer, having had a skin cancer scare himself in 2006, but fortunately was treated successfully after having a malignant melanoma removed. His ultimate goal is to raise at least £5,000 at the London Marathon and says "our muscles may well be aching by the end of the marathon but that is a small price to pay to help fund the work into vital cancer research".
Whether you take on an event in the more conventional way or whilst carrying a cider press, we'd love to have you on our team.
Cancer Research UK pioneers life-saving research to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. The generosity of our supporters has enabled the charity to lead the world in discovering and developing newer, kinder treatments and get closer to cures. As a result we've helped double survival rates in just 40 years.
But we can't stop there. Every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer and with our ageing population, this statistic is getting worse.
Every step we make towards beating cancer relies on every mile, every pound and every person. From our runners on the race course to our scientists, doctors and nurses in the hospitals and labs, we're all working together to save more lives by preventing, controlling and curing all cancers.
And there is real hope. Each year our scientists get closer to finding cures for cancers - whether through targeted treatment or simply detecting cancers earlier. With the continued help of our supporters we can accelerate our progress against this devastating disease.
Sooner or later we will find cures for all cancers. Let's make it sooner. Visit www.cruk.org/sportchallenges to find the event that's right for you, or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
