The London Marathon is an epic, inspirational event and raises an extraordinary amount of money for good causes. In fact, it's the single biggest fundraising day in the world and when Virgin decided to sponsor the London Marathon in 2010, we targeted making it even bigger. Our aim was to help runners raise over a £¼ billion over 5 years.
Virgin Money Giving, the not-for-profit fundraising website from Virgin Money, is the official fundraising partner of the London Marathon but can be used for a range of fundraising activities, from cake sales, bungee jumping and abseiling, through to Ironman events and Guinness World Record attempts.
Back to 26.2 miles: there were 34,278 London Marathon finishers on Sunday 21 April 2013, with 75 per cent of these runners raising £53 million for good causes, another record!
Virgin London Marathon charity fundraising totals:
The London Marathon is both an iconic sporting occasion and a special day full of endeavour and fantastic fundraising stories.
Virgin Money Giving has made a big contribution towards charity fundraising with over £245 million raised since its launch in 2009 and because it's a not-for-profit fundraising service, almost £8 million (£7.9m) more has reached charities, compared to JustGiving.*
Good luck with your training and fundraising for the 2014 Virgin Money London Marathon. Another record breaking year will see the London Marathon smash the £¼ billion target in 2014!
