Give us eight weeks of your time, and we'll give you the tools and support you need to master the mile.
Welcome to the first ever interactive Runner's World Mile Challenge.
Relive the glory days of British middle-distance running. Find your limits over an exacting distance. Boost your speed and endurance.
Give us eight weeks of your time, and we'll give you foolproof schedules, oodles of advice and forum chat. The result: your best-ever mile performance.
How do I take part?
All you need is a pair of trainers and a bit of good old-fashioned grit. Read our essential mile training advice, then just download your training schedule to get started.
But I don't have anyone to train with!
Training alone can be hard going, so don't tough it out - join in the fun online instead.
You can find out how fellow Challengers (including the Runner's World web team) are getting on in our dedicated forum thread, tweet your training highs and lows @runnersworlduk, and show us your stomping ground via flickr.
Where can I run my mile?
Line up at your local track or just find a flat bit of ground - wherever you run your mile, all that matters is your time.
If you want the real racing experience, the British Milers Club organise regular mile races, and you can find more information about mile training and racing on the BMC website.
On the forum: Share the highs and lows of training on the dedicated Mile Challenge forum thread.
Twitter: Tweet your times and training tales @runnersworlduk, using the hashtag #milechallenge. Include your postcode in your tweets, and we'll add you to our Mile Challenge map.
Facebook: Join in the conversation and show us your training photos on our brand new official facebook page.
Flickr: Show off your stomping ground - pop your training and racing photos in our flickr group.
