In short: Even better this year! In full: Fab course as always, improved this year by the addition of an adder after the steep bit of the coffin trail. Always run with a colonial as they spot the snakes. Cracking weather, loads of atmosphere. Really enjoyable. Date of review: April 30, 2010

In short: Fabulous fun - mud and hills, all I want from my running In full: Great atmosphere with the drumming - everyone seemed to have such a good day. Oddly for this course the weather was good and the views were actually there. This really is a good course although the bog seemed quite tame this year - I only had mud up to my knees this time. Excellent organisation and a really good day out. Thank you to the VO2 Max team and congrats to Di who had the hardest job of all. See you at Coniston. Date of review: September 7, 2009

In short: What fun! Sunshine, mud and a cracking course In full: Great course ingeniously weaving its way round hills, up hills, alongside tarns, all with great views, and then the mud which added even more fun. Cracking organisation and great facilities at Cartmel racecourse. Even a party afterwards complete with camp dancing and mexican waves. Let's do it all again sometime Date of review: March 22, 2009

In short: Excellent - couldn't be better In full: Absolutely superb from start to finish. And due to a marshalling mix-up, the first and probably only race I have ever led! Can't get better Date of review: November 3, 2008

In short: What a fabulous day! In full: Never set out running in such weather before but what a hoot! Those that decided to brave the shortened course were clearly all bonkers which made it even more fun. The steel band playing ABBA as I got back added to the general air of surrealness of the whole day. Thanks again to G, C and team. Let's hope it's dry for the Dirty Double. In short: Great weekend, shame the race had to be cancelled. In full: What a sad disappointment for the organisers that the storm shredded the marquees early Saturday morning and that all they could do was to try and minimise the H&S risks to their staff and the public. What else could they do but accept their responsibilities and cancel the race? Still, the course was there, and there were plenty of folk who ran it and had a great time doing so. The camaraderie was still there, the cakes were still eaten and the majority of people I spoke to still had a damn' good weekend doing what they'd come to the Lakes to do. I think a discounted offer for next year's race was generous enough - read the small print of ANY race entry form before complaining.
Thanks Graham and Claire and your teams who stood there for hours in the pouring rain communicating as best they could what was happening. See you at Coniston. Date of review: September 29, 2008

In short: Scenic and splendid, hard and heartbreaking, one of the best there is! In full: Love the new course! As well organised as ever - thanks to C and G AGAIN, and their wonderful set of committed volunteers who make it such an event. This isn't just a run - this is a day out for everyone, and that is shown by how many stay on to cheer the later kids' and shorter runs. Improvements made for this year include the snazzy new t shirt design (which I wear with pride) and excellent standards in on-site catering. Last year I wasn't sure how this could get better, now I know. See you at the next one. Date of review: June 5, 2008

In short: Fantastic course and fantastic fun! In full: Brilliant - despite being the same course I'm sure it was even better this year! Great fun, fantastic atmosphere and a wonderfully scenic course to boot. Even had tadpoles in a puddle to look at - how many races do you get tadpoles in? Exactly - it has to be an extra special race for that. Many thanks to Claire and Graham again. Roll on Garburn and the rest of the series. Date of review: April 20, 2008

In short: Great fun! In full: Great introduction to fell running - very pleasant (and wet) marked course, one big hill and plenty of smaller ups and downs. Very enjoyable. Date of review: December 2, 2007
