In short: PROMISE TO SORT OUT BAG TENT AND I MIGHT BE BACK In full: Manchester marathon is my local home race and I desperately wanted it to be an amazing first marathon experience.
Route was ok if narrow in places. It would be stupid to increase the field size (as always happens in subsequent years) without changing the course.
The main issue with today, that everyone will point out is the baggage tent. WAAY TOO SMALL AND TOTALLY UNDERSTAFFED. People were left violently shaking in cold, wet kit whilst many of the bags were dumped outside the tent. Many bags had spilled open and there were clothes, car keys, house keys, shoes littered all over the place.
In future, the tent(s) need to be much bigger so different numbers could be separated and more marshals can find and return the bags. The poor girl in the tent did the very best she could but she was on her own trying to return 7000 bags to a crowd of very cold and tired people.
This is Manchester. Our weather is notoriously bad. You could have guessed that people would need a large dry area to change. It was critical that our post-race gear stayed dry. Why fling it outside the tent and let everything get trampled and wet?
I wanted it to be brilliant but feel so let down my the organisation. If you fix that, it would be a great race. Date of review: April 29, 2012

In short: fast and flat. don't be intimidated by the vestys and expensive trainerss. In full: I entered this thinking it was similar to the Manchester 10k, tripping over superman's cape and being cheered on by supprters lining the streets 10 deep. How wrong did i want to be!!
As a newbie running my first race, I was reaaally nervous and slightly intimidated by all the club runners in their posh kit. However, once you get going none of that matters. Course was nice and flat. Most of it was round quiet country lanes which was lovely apart from the nasty manure stink from farms and nearly tripping over a dead pheasent. ick! Water at half way came in cups which were hard to drink from and i missed my face entirely and dribbled the whole lot down my leg.
It was really nice to have a marshall on the last corner to call out your name. i felt really special even though i was one of the tail enders (easily pleased, i know!)
All in all, a great place to do your first runner's race. see you next year! Date of review: September 19, 2007
