In short: Excellent value, strong field, excellent organisation, good karaoke, good scenery, no chip timing but results were posted immediately In full: Wow. I don't know where to start really. It's amazing value for money, really well organised and marshalled, great scenery, and a bit of karaoke for good measure. Oh, and the results were avilable almost immediately after the race, and that was by doing it the old fashioned way with no chip timing! Well done to all at Hercules Wimbledon who stepped in to host the event this year.
I loved the fact the start/finish were on a proper running track, especially as I hadn't run on one before so thanks for that. I liked the route, apart from the hill as it passed the All England Club and St Mary's Church. The signs for km marks were fairly clear, although I know a few runners said afterwards they couldn't see them.
Plenty of drinks and fruit post-race, as well as a bit of karaoke! And I have to repeat well done for getting the results up so quickly without chip timing, well done to all those at the finish taking down race numbers, positions and times the traditional way. There were no prizes for the mortals, but that didn't matter to me as it was more than enjoyable enough already, and it is only 5k! I'll definitely be back next year! Date of review: August 10, 2010
In short: Nice course, excellent organisation and marshalling, good value for money In full: I would rate this race right up there with any other I've done before, in terms of doing a fast time, clear signalling and overall organisation.
Registration pre-race was well structured, I think there were at least 4 queues depending on your name in the alphabet to help ease any congestion. Based at the Xcel Centre in Walton, runners could leave gear in a locker for a £1 deposit, toilets and changing area were also available.
The route was very straightforward and there were clear km markers for every km, as well as a drinks station at halfway. Excellent medal at the finish to reward your efforts and results were online very quickly post-race.
Will definitely make this my annual flagship 10k, well done to all at Elmbridge Road Runners for making this event happen. Date of review: August 10, 2010
In short: Scenic course, fantastic organisation and marshalling, excellent value for money. In full: From start to finish this race was superbly well organised. Given a field of about 500, I think collecting numbers on the day is a good idea. Upon arrival at the Rugby Club, everything was clearly signed for the runners pre-race, toilets, changing facilities all excellent. Nice mile walk to the picturesque start at Brockham Green. Instructions were very clear at the start, clear start line in the road, markers for different paced runners as well. I wish every other race would ban earphones which the Dorking 10 does.
As for during the race, a lovely course, admittedly very hot, sunny and hilly but I would rather admire the Surrey Hills under perfect blue skies, although I'm certain some will disagree mid race! Excellent marshalling throughout the course, very clear instructions as well as motivating. And a big thank you to whoever it was spraying with a water hose over the runners, very much appreciated.
Loved the finish area across the rugby pitch, and the announcer calling out every runner's name as they finished. Great technical T-shirts given out this year as it's the 25th anniversary race. First time I've done this race, will be making it an annual ritual. Favourite race I've done so far, best organisation, best scenery and a really good atmosphere as well. Well done to all at Dorking and Mole Valley AC. Date of review: May 24, 2010
In short: Very well organised, fantastic marshalling, good atmosphere, flat(ish) course, great scenery, good value.. In full: My first half-marathon, would definitely recommend this race to everyone. Superbly organised by the Ranelagh Harriers, mile markers at every mile. Fantastic marshalling, not only directing but motivating as well which believe me makes a difference so well done. I know the area well so it was a fantastic scenic course, will definitely be doing it again. Every finisher gets an excellent gold medal with a nice design. Date of review: May 17, 2010
In short: Fast course, Well marshalled with drinks every 3 miles, Good scenery (first half), Clear mile markers, But a bit expensive In full: Separate start times spread out the field reasonably well barring a few sections along the Portsmouth Road. Found the mile markers very useful to manage my pace, still didn't stop me going to fast for the first 8 miles! Good enthusiastic crowds in Kingston with some support dotted about the course as well. Very helpful marshalls on tricky road sections for the second half of each lap, and plenty of drinks stations. Date of review: April 12, 2010
